                          Texas Longhorns

Story Description: A rancher, Curtis Langtry, rejects his two sons because of his rigid adherence to his, tragically misguided, rabid, fundamentalist religious beliefs.  He turns his back on them when they need him the most.  They're sent to Vietnam, where the youngest, Seth Quee, is killed his first week after arrival. Curtis has no idea what happened to his other son.  The oldest boy, Vincent,  marrys and changes his last name to 'Longhorn' in honor of his little brother who was given the nickname "The Longhorn," for obvious reasons.  Vince has a son he names Casey.  He is the very image of Vince's younger brother.

The boy grows up in a small, rural ranching community  in Southern California. His mother dies from cancer when he's fourteen.  Casey and his dad gravitate to each other for mutual support from the grief they share from their loss.  On his eighteenth birthday, his dad reveals to him everything about his past and tells Casey he has a grandfather out there somewhere in Texas.  It's a story of love, honor, brotherhood, faith, repentance, compassion, forgiveness and hope.
