Spirit Songs

(poetry)

My first attempts at writing was poetry.  I would get something stuck in my head and it would come onto the page as a poem.  Here you will find poems that speak of Nature and man's connection to it as well as my thoughts on the human condition..

Dance:  Inspired by a young veteran in a wheelchair attending a powwow.  You could see in his eyes his desire to be among the dancers.

Face in the Window:  Autobiographical.  Dealing with the death of my father at an early age and how the child couldn't understand just what was happening.

The Forest:  Listen to the voice of nature.  She will speak to you.

The Old One:  Sometimes the wisdom of age is that they know to look within.

Pappy:  Written as a final tribute to a fellow poet and Mountain Man.  The scattering of his ashes in a high meadow was quite fitting for this man everyone knew as Pappy.

Spirit Dream:  Perhaps the dreams that we have are more than just dreams.

The Stream:  The flow of a stream can mimic the flow of life.  How it turns out is up to us.

Spirit of the Wolf:  A lament to the loss of a brother in nature.
