I have run out of superlatives. Courtney has done an incredible job with her alphabet series. Words I've never known. Words that conjure up so much. «Wahine-witches». I love it.

The first few in this series were cute, but I have my doubts about this project of going through the entire alphabet. Surely a poem has to be something more than a somewhat loosely-related sequence of words? Just because one is writing a poem does not necessarily excuse one from the requirements of punctuation or - arguably - grammar. Lots of nice images in the W section, though. Wanton waifs, welted, walloped, indeed!

W is hard, and while this doesn't really overcome the huge difficulties, there's some cool word-play and nice, if fleeting, glimpses of scenes and scenarios.

'W'hy is tied together by its strong first and last verses, which provide a sort of structure for the rest of the poem. It's a very imaginative piece, and seems as if it would be fun to read aloud.
