The Sound of Music

By

The cloudless day shined blindingly bright on the apple mounds quivering in anticipation across his lap. Unblemished, alabaster complimented by the tanned hand draping a smooth hillock. Whirring rose from the pines, and birds everywhere sang along as his hand raised, smacking the Hills Alive with the Sound of Music...

Is this a story, is it poetry. Either way, it is very unique. Colors clashing, sounds singing, images forming. Not bad for 50 words.

The Sound of Music is a funny and endearing mini-saga, although I kept picturing Julie Andrews as the female lead. And of course I can never resist the phrase «quivering in anticipation.»

Well, I have to admit, this nearly turned me off. The imagery seemed a little too thick, like a freshman writing his first paper and making the sentences too long and the adjectives too flowery. But, when I hit that last line...if I had been drinking something, it would have been spraying out my nose! I laughed out loud at the rightness of it. Teriffic!

I've always thought that the Sound of Music would make a great background for a story. It's easy to picture this as the opening scene, with reddened cheeks and crisp mountain air carrying the sounds of well-placed spank.
