The infamous woodshed!
The SSC has a long history going back to the last century! Many people worked to generate the hundreds of stories. Their contributions took many forms. It is not practical to make a list of all of these but there is information for each year and story.
First, of course, are the Authors who toiled long hours over hot keyboards to assemble letters in words, words into sentences and then into stories. Then the back breaking labor of chopping out some words to make it fit the size limit, usually five hundred words. In the case of mini-sagas of exactly fifty words finding exactly the correct additional word. All this with their Muse standing behind them with paddle, strap or cane to give that special extra inspiration and encouragement.
Second, the Reviewers who had to write cleaver blurbs to show some appreciation and then vote on which wonderful story was the best according to vague standards.
Third, the Director (or, as often called, The Dictator) who had to organize the entire production and make sure that the other unpaid minions did what they promised to do – on time.
Finally, the various Web Masters and Mistresses who took the stories, the reviews, the rules and the results and made a web site for posterity.
This web site has been assembled from many pieces. The SSC's from 2001 through 2010 were on the SSS web site so they are pretty much as they were there. Because of the various tastes of the web masters and mistresses the styles vary a lot. There were also some additional years, 1996-1998 that were online for a while but not on the SSS site and will be eventually included. The entries for 2011 and even 2012 will be included if recoverable as well.
Because of the need to make a coherent unit for this ASSTR incarnation, not everything will be posted immediately. Please be patient.
The copyright of each story remains with the author whether or not there is an explicit notice on an individual story. (Such notice is not required by the copyright law.) The SSC rules always included the right to repost the stories on the SSS web site so the site has permission of the copyright owners.
Although authors generally are delighted to hear from their readers and usually respond please remember that these are not current posts and the e-mails given may not be valid (those will bounce) or the author has abandoned that mailbox (those will never be read). It would be reasonable to try a short note rather than a long dissertation until you establish contact and not be annoyed that the comment you put effort into appears ignored.
