This author used the old crooners' (Bobby Vinton, who used to sing ballads and love songs) song as the template for his parody. Rather than slavishly copy the rhyming elements and just change the words to kinky meanings, the author managed to clone the emotional spirit, honor the rhyming structure, exactly copy two lines whilst changing their meaning entirely thanks to the surrounding lines, AND paint a fetching picture. Quite good work, I think.

This review took so long because I was trying to get hold of a copy of Blue Velvet to make an intelligent comparison. But alas, it's to no avail.
Nevertheless, the author should be praised because parodies are one of the hardest categories to do. My only comment is that there was more emphasis on the color red than on the texture of velvet. The author could have explored the concept of texture more as it is more novel than the color red.

I've always admired those who can write this sort of parody, and this is an excellent take on the golden oldie. The author did a wonderful job of following the style and flow of the original, while making it very-much on topic. Although the word "spank" or any of its forms is not used, we don't have any question as to what went on!
The last line seems a little clumsy -- I think there may be an extra syllable or two -- but that's a minor quibble with such an enjoyable piece.
