Category: Not my kink Sorry about the uninspired title. This is more than just not my kink; it's actually a squick. But I want to enter a story in every category, so I had to push myself. Enjoy!
Not My Kink
By

Gina's pinky hovered over the ENTER key. The cursor blinked, its unhurried, steady pulsing beat mirroring the blood which throbbed in her hungry veins.
In her mind she counted - one, two, three, four, five, six. The cursor threatened to flash forever, as though taunting her, urging her to take up the challenge.
At last, she pressed the button and in seconds, a long list of websites appeared. Hundreds.
No way, she thought. There can't possibly be that many people into this! It was just like the first time. That first word had been scary to type; this one was terrifying. But the sheer numbers reassured her that she was not a freak. She used to think she was a freak. But that was before she'd typed "spank." Afterwards. . . well, things were different afterwards. It was a revelation, the countless URLs. She double-clicked a link and was instantly transported to another world. Like a guardian at the gates of paradise, the ubiquitous window popped up, warning her that if she was under eighteen she couldn't enter.
She worked her way through the list, learning more about herself as she went. Along the way she made the acquaintance of other kinks, some appealing and some not. What affected her most of all, though, was the discovery of so many kindred spirits, people just like her. They had been condemned and ridiculed for their fantasies too, by partners who thought it was sick or perverse or just silly.
Two women. That was as close as Tommy got to anything remotely kinky. Tommy with his frat boy manners and bathroom humor. He just didn't have the head for experimenting. And she'd had more than enough of his head. Usenet revealed to her entire communities of people with "alt" tastes. Some crossed over into more than one group. And people kinked in one direction were always more understanding of those kinked in another.
Finally, she found a site with several galleries of pictures, a wealth of images of every conceivable kink, including her newest fascination. Gina rubbed her hands together before typing in the commands which were to the computer the equivalent of a self-destruct mechanism in some science fiction movie.
YES, YES, YES, she typed in response to all the "Are you sure. . ?" prompts.
She had downloaded the most explicit picture she could find and she permanently installed it on the system's desktop. It would freeze there, along with every program, game and everything else on Tommy's computer. Gina looked at her watch. She had to hurry or she'd be late getting to William's house. She couldn't wait. Best of all was the knowledge that she'd never have to spell anything out for him. Her new master knew what she needed, what she wanted.
And after he spanked her, he'd let Max have a go at her. The image made her squirm. He was only four, but in dog years, that was almost thirty.
The End

What excellent characterization! This main character takes a good hard and conscious look at herself. She is relieved and pleasantly surprised to discover that she is not alone. In this very thought provoking piece the ending is so cleverly twisted. In that very last line the author takes us all to the edge in discovering what is not her kink. I love stories with an edgy twist, and this one took me by complete surprise!

Woo boy! Yep, that definitely squicks me too. However, I really like the way that you described Gina's anxiety over being a freak and her relief in discovering - via the internet - that her fantasies are shared by many. I think that is something many, many people of various kinky persuasions can relate to. I also enjoyed the humor in the desktop image being left for Gina's boyfriend/husband to discover. :-) And the subject matter certainly causes one to ponder consensuality issues and when it would be justifiable to say YKINOK. Nice work, especially since you were dealing with topic that squicked you.

Squirmy, squicky and definitely NMK either, but wonderfully written. It takes a talented writer to make you want to read something you positively wouldn't want to and enjoy it. This story did just that. Incredibly detailed, it felt far more than 500 words, and complete without ever seeing the act.
