The Conference

Kendra Chase blinked in glare of the sun. What had just happened? ...Not much. Only enough to affect her whole frigging life!
She tilted her head up at the towering monstrosity: the family seat. 'Family seat' all right, rubbing her own throbbing seat in concert with the throbbing in her temples.
How dare he?! They?! Kendra trembled; unaccustomed tears clouded her eyes. Cast out from the life she'd become accustomed to! The rank of privilege sat comfortably on her shoulders; now the pain of her banishment laid heavily upon her bottom.
"Daughter, Chadwick and I have discussed this. It's only fair for you to experience life from another angle. You're 23 years old, but your behavior is that of a spoiled brat of 12.
"The next six months you're cutoff from family funds, etc. We're hoping you'll grow up and become the adult you're expected to be.
"You'll agree with this...or there'll be no wedding. Correct, Chadwick?"
"Correct, Matthew. ...Kendra, I love you. However, I'll not marry a spoiled heiress who has no thought except for her next manicure! It's been expected we marry to merge our families, but I'll be damned if I'll be saddled with a brat who can't spare a thought for anyone but herself. "As much as I'm fond of the innocent girl you were-a selfish woman isn't someone I'll share my life. Take *that* to the bank!"
Chad stared at Kendra, piercing eyes aglow with strength and finality. She'd never noticed how flickers of flame shot out when he was challenged...
"Really Chad? After all the plans...now you won't marry me? It's expected! Tell him, Daddy. ...A duty to his family and ours..." Her lower lip trembled, but pride didn't allow her to show it. "Daddy, why agree to all this? Cut me off? For heaven's sake, why?"
Matthew Chase shrugged. "For your own good, Kenny. You'll earn your own money, budget expenses; perhaps learn some lessons along the way. Chadwick's a valuable team player, but I'll not have him marry you, and you both be unhappy.
"Time to grow up, Kendra Karon Chase. Well? A job waits at a pizza place by the pier. With a small room above it for you to stay. A friend needs help with the summer crowd. That's as far as my help will go. Except for this..."
Kendra landed over her father's lap--with her fiance's obvious approval-- and spanked. She hadn't been spanked ever, but her father's heavy palm was determined to teach her a life lesson: discipline. Late maybe, but better late than...
Squealing, she blushed; fighting feelings she'd quelled since childhood. Her glance fell on Chad, with arms crossed, nodding at the smacks landing on her poor rump! How could he???
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
...Kendra donned her sunglasses, walking slowly to the bus which would take her to the pier, rubbing her tingling fanny. She would show them all!
But Kendra fantasized the afternoon away; of Chad's glowing eyes grazing over her glowing glues...

A pleasant story of a spoiled brat getting her comeuppance. The idea of a spoiled little rich girl finally getting spanked is a classic scenario, and this is a nicely executed take on the concept.

Fun story that Courtney wrote. I have to say though that I thought it wasn't ALL Kendra's fault she was living like a privileged person at her age. She wasn't corrected her whole life and her family raised her. Kind of seems mean to spank her and teach her a life lesson at 22. But it appears it will be a happy ending. And well written. pm

This story reminds me of certain romance novels I used to hoard when I was a kid (so I could read the good parts again and again). Of course The Conference is short enough that there's no room for anything but the good parts, and so much the better. <g> The spoiled heroine is well-drawn, and her comeuppance apparently long overdue.

Well done. An amazing amount of character information is revealed in a short time. It seems as if each of the characters has another story, hiding from view off the screen.
