Chapter XXIII:  Fall/Winter 1990

The twins, Brad, and another old friend join Tim, Joey, and Suzi at Central State where the unknown group of voices use the innocent to infiltrate the group's security.  (100% done). 

Chapter XXIV:  Winter/Spring 1991

The unknown group of voices spring up again with an all out attack that even Tim is unable to stop.  This chapter is 40% done. 

This chapter is still up in the air about what it will contain.  I figure inspiration will strike by the time I reach it. Of course at the rate I'm going, old age may strike first.

This chapter will set the stage for the finalle, but most of the plots within it will be concluded before moving on.  Among them will be Eric joining them at Central State bringing along his FEMALE love interest, and he and Suzi help Tim deal with his emotional hell when Tim finds himself having formed romantic feelings for someone other than Jennifer.  This chapter was started on paper (a first for me) while serving jury duty and waiting to be called, but has not yet been entered in.

This one's been in my head almost as long as Chapter XIX, but has evolved so much that it no longer resembles my original conception.  Heavy MC content, along with action/adventure, and very little sex.  That's just the opposite to my original idea, for when I first dreamed this chapter up, I had planned to have Tim experience the darkest forms of sex and MC.  I guess you can say writing this story has been good for me in that sense.  This one will introduce a new and incredibly powerful foe, will (hopefully) quickly build up to the telepathic war of the century, then spirals down beyond the lowest emotional depths of any of the previous chapters before hitting rock bottom where Tim's discovers the path to his final destiny.  This chapter has bits and pieces already written, but this only amounts to at most 10% of what I expect to write.

Mostly clean up and whatever happened to everyone mentioned in the story.   Sometimes I wonder if I should be writing a little part of this one  every time I introduce a new character, but I have the feeling I should wait until I've finished everything else before writing any of my character's fate out.  I'm planning on basing this chapter around a New Year's Eve party held on December 31st, 1999 at the South Mansion.  I'm even thinking of having other characters tell parts of it, but for the most part it will be Tim telling it.

A short story told by Joey which concludes the story, yet allows for its continuation if I later (as in a decade or two later) decide to do so.

Telekinesis isn't something I feel fits in _The Book_'s universe.  Remember, my goal here is for someone to be able to read _The Book_ after reading my story and not find any really strong conflictions between the two.  While _The Book_ never mentions telekinesis or empathy in any way, and even though I have added empathy, I have made empathy a distictly seperate ability and such would not directly conflict with _The Book_'s ideals.

As you have suggested, telekinesis would most likely be related to telepathy, but nowhere in _The Book_ has that been mentioned.  The Book's form of telepathy depends on the use of symbols.  Whether these symbols have any true physical form or are simply the mind's representation of the processes going on in one's head is a matter of conjecture.  But I feel in that universe telekinesis would be unrelated and completely seperate to telepathy.

Telekinesis will play an important role in the finale, but not in the sense you probably have been thinking of.  And there already has been two seperate uses of that universe's telekinetic abilities in the story so far, but I don't expect anyone to even hazard a guess at what they are.

"Oh that reminds me, when Tim is floating his mind around,  that's more a form of astral projection than simple telepathy."

Not the way he does it.  The way I've been developing the physics of the symbols, the transmission of one's thoughts/symbols does not depend on the distance between the two and occures instantaniously.  However, because the brain is flesh and blood and therefor doesn't operate instantaniously, one can sense and defend themselves when another mind is preparing to probe or attack them.  They don't actually sense the probe itself, just the person's intentions before releasing the probe.

When Tim went mind hopping, he first had to use his telepathic senses to find a mind who was in the direction we wanted to go, then opened a partial two-way with them.  His telepathic range was only limited by his ability to distinguish who's thoughts belonged to whom before locking on to that person's mind.  The more he did this, the better he got, and by the time he was at the summer camp, he could lock onto another's mind simply by initiating a specific responce while listening to their voice over the phone.

If Tim had figured it out back when he had mind hopped to Brad's house, he could have simply said something over the phone to Brad to get Brad to emit a specific thought which he could have focused his telepathic senses on detecting.  When using the telephone, Tim actually isn't interested in what they say since that comes after what they think.  But then their voice does help him by giving him a feel for what they had thought the fraction of a second before it traveled down the phone line and through the air to his ear.

People who were physically near his location were easier to lock on to because he received more of their thoughts than the others further away.  Like the sun being easier to locate in the sky than a particular star.  A lot of those stars put out more light than the sun, but because the sun is so much closer to us... well, you get the idea.

When Tim forms the two way with that other person, he uses their own telepathic senses (which everyone has a small amount of, even though I haven't stated it in the story yet) to find the next person to hop to.  Once Tim can distinguish a single person's thoughts from the background noise, he can usually keep a lock on them by making them repeat a certain thought which he keys in on.  Like I mentioned in the story, the limiting factor isn't the distance between Tim and another person's mind, it's the number of other minds between them.
