"Why do you write erotica?" I admit, I don't get asked that much. Most of the people who discover I write erotic stories either know the answer already, or can imagine one on their own. Still, the question remains. Why?
Well, why write any kind of story? For me, stories are an irresistible urge. I like telling tales. I like creating characters then watching them live their lives inside my head. Most of all, I love sharing those tales with other people. A good story is a way of exploring who we are.
And, frankly, there is no feeling in the world like the warm tingling you get when someone says, "I really liked your story."
IMHO, when we tell stories, we're really exploring an aspect of ourselves. Sometimes the aspects are pretty specific. When you write a mystery story based around a murder, you're exploring the reasons we kill each other. Or, if you write about a mother and daughter's day out, you're exploring relationships between parents and children.
An erotic story, then, is an exploration of our sexual natures and everything that touches upon. Which also explains why admitting you read erotica, much less write it, will get you a few raised eyebrows. Even in these jaded times, sex is one of the few things that will raise a few gasps. Sex will get you an NC-17 rating in a movie faster than a few bloody decapitations. So writing about it, exploring it, is bound to stir the pot.
So, grab a ladle and start stirring. ^_^
This is the tiny section where I keep my normal, run-of-the-mill erotica. No furries, no outer space settings (not yet, at least), just contemporary erotic stories. Knowing me, it'll remain tiny until I become more comfortable writing about humans.
