Chapter 1 ~ f, ff

Erin's mother looked at her, thinking about the changes in her daughter since she'd been home for the last month.  The bright, sunny girl that existed before the accident and the coma seemed to be gone, replaced by this sad, restless little girl who only seemed to put on a fake smile when she thought she was supposed to.  Erin didn't know her mother noticed this, but she did... Erin was trying to keep up appearances.  Her mother knew it was a sign of depression, but didn't know what to do for her daughter.

They did the dinner dishes together, as they always did, in the condo her mother had bought in the months while she was in the coma.  The old house had too many memories of her late husband, and there was so much she didn't know about what had happened to Erin, and their neighbor John... there was just too much darkness and uncertainty in that line of thought, for her.  The sale of the house and business, in addition to her husband's life insurance, allowed her to buy a very nice place in the city.

Erin was being home schooled, now.  At first the tutor was to help her catch up with the schoolwork she'd missed while in the hospital, but Erin asked for... and received... permission to not return to school.  She hadn't told her mother why, but her mother had seen it in her eyes... she wasn't ready.  Erin was still a bright girl... the head trauma hadn't damaged her intellect, fortunately, and she only needed two and a half hours of instruction every day in order to keep up with the other kids her age.  Erin just went through the motions.  She was having a very hard time knowing what was the point of it all.

Most nights Erin would Skype with her friends she had made while part of The Circle.  They'd been reunited when she was discovered by Lucy and awoken ... her room was the noisiest room in the entire clinic that night, usually silent as a tomb with the soft beeps of medical equipment coming from each room, but hers was filled with the sounds of giggling young ladies, and hugs, and doctors doing their best to come in and examine her, including the Doctor Mike Turner.  He'd told Erin's mother that he was moving away from the city soon but he'd been informed of Erin's awakening, and wanted to come see her.  Erin wasn't sure what to make of his presence, and the other girls seemed to be a little unsure of him too, as he'd been part of the now broken Circle and they'd all been with him sexually against their wills, but he'd brought his daughter Laura, and the girls were all happy to see each other and they'd hugged and cried a little when she'd whispered to them that they were leaving town and changing identities so they could be together as a couple.

Her mother had waited until the little "Waking Up" party was over, and they were alone, to tell her about her father... and while Erin had cried a little, her mother thought there wasn't as much grief as she thought there would... or should... be.  Erin had already been grieving for John, the man with whom she spent almost every day of her life that she could remember, the man who actually raised her and loved her, and the death of the man who had barely been in her life at all just didn't hit her very hard.

Laura had promised to stay in touch, and she had.  The fake ID guy, coincidentally the same one who had set up John with a new identity and life, had given Laura high school graduate credentials, as well as giving her 3 years of age, and now she attended college next to her father's hospital and even wore a wedding ring from a ceremony in Mexico.  She and her father... husband... were beginning to discuss when they'd start having children.  Laura was blissfully happy, and Erin was truly happy for her.

Nora had gone to state competition that year representing her track team, and was currently fucking both her coach and her guidance counselor at school.  Not at the same time.  She assured her friends it was ok, because it was her choice, for a change.  "A girl has needs, they are both scared to death of me, and I know they wont blab," she'd say, and they'd all laugh.

And Lucy was living in their apartment with her mother, going to school every day and generally loving life.  She even visited Mary, the late Crazy Ed's niece, at least once a week, still in the hospital being paid for by her dead uncle's liquidated estate, and in the last few visits she even managed to get Lucy to speak to her.  As with Erin, Lucy would just go and talk to the unresponsive Mary, until one day her words got through and Mary chortled at something Lucy had said.   Unlike Erin, Lucy and Mary had known each other for years, forced by The Circle to be intimate with one another.  And while Mary still associated Lucy with The Pain and torture her uncle had put her through, more and more she'd come to see Lucy as another victim of her uncle, someone who understood.  Her doctors, kind people who truly cared about Lucy's well being, didn't think it was yet a good idea to give Lucy unfettered access to Skype, but they felt she was making progress every day.  Being exposed to genuine human affection by Lucy was doing wonders for her.  Mary always asked Lucy about the girl with the golden hair... she never seemed to call her by her name, for some reason.

Her old public school friends and lovers, Chrissy and Sam, were nowhere to be found.  One of Samantha's adopted mothers was a district attorney for the city and in spite of the gag order and media blackout she actually knew all about what happened with The Circle, and Erin's suspected connection to it with the missing John, and she remembered well that her daughter had spent days beside his pool, and nights with Erin.  Off the record she told Chrissy's parents about this as well... knowing she'd lose her job if anyone found out she breached confidentiality... and they decided that they didn't want their daughters caught up in whatever Erin had been caught up in, especially with John still out there, somewhere.  They forbade their daughters to have contact with Erin, and the girls resisted, but it wasn't difficult to comply as Erin had been in a coma for four months.  By the time she woke up they were out of the habit of being her friend, and they had their own lives going on (and they still slept and played with each other, sometimes), and they felt bad about losing contact with Erin from time to time, but children move on.  Erin thought she should feel sad about that, but.  But.  Erin didn't seem to feel much about anything, any more.

Their first night together on Skype they'd asked her about John, and, numbly, Erin told them he'd gone and she didn't know where he was.  The change in her demeanor was so drastic that they hadn't asked about him again... when his name came up her face had gone blank, and it scared them all, a little... this was not the Erin they knew.  And sometimes they would talk about sex... they'd all been together with each other so much, and being intimate with each other had been the only truly positive part of being in The Circle... and sometimes the mood would get steamy and they'd masturbate with each other on camera... but Erin always faked it.  She didn't know why, but her body would no longer respond when she thought about sexual things, not even when she wanted it to... when she felt she needed to.  Sometimes she was in a haze between her brain wanting the relief and comfort of an orgasm, but her hormones were having no part in it, and her body would just not respond.  One night she got in the shower... thank god their new condo had hand-held showerheads, she thought... and she laid down in the floor of the tub and masturbated her now 12 year old body with the shower head, and she got so frustrated at her inability to orgasm that she cried in frustration.  She felt broken, so she faked sexual arousal with her friends, when the subject came up.  Not even the vibrators hidden inside her stuffed pony, a gift from John, could reach her, she wouldn't lubricate enough to slide them inside, and they just felt uncomfortable buzzing against her unaroused clitoris.

Erin didn't always remember her dreams... she didn't want to... because she often dreamed of John.  She would dream of him and of making love with him and waking up this was the closest her passions came to becoming enflamed... but when she woke up, and her brain switched on, she remembered again she was actually alone, abandoned, she couldn't wake her body.  She began to dread her dreams.

But she remembered what had happened that day, she remembered every detail.  She remembered getting off the bus, and the note she hadn't finished reading, and finding his house empty, and seeing Crazy Ed.  She remembered every moment of the girl screaming in her head while she slept, trying to escape, she remembered thinking, in the coma, that being dead might be better than the continual insanity of it, until Lucy's voice had caused the screaming girl to finally rest.

One night her mother had finished an entire bottle of wine at dinner, and finally asked her about John while they were doing dishes together.

"What about him?" Erin asked casually without looking up.

"He left so suddenly," her mother said.  She'd been thinking of this conversation for a long time, and wasn't at a loss for what to say.  "He left so suddenly, and you've never asked about him, and then your father... and Ed Donners... and your friends being in that... situation... did John... did he ever... with you?"

And Erin calmly replied, "No Mom, he was always great with me.  I was never afraid of anything with him."  And that was the truth.

And her mother looked at her, Erin never looking up from the dishes.  She wasn't shocked when I asked.  Or outraged.  She is... nothing... not mad, not upset.  He had.  They had been together.... for how long?  How long....

She had begun suspecting while Erin was in the coma that John had molested her, and she saw this as confirmation, but she honestly didn't know where to go from here.  She would think back to her daughter before all this had happened, remembering that she seemed to have the happiest little girl in the world, always so excited to spend her days with John while mom and dad were away working.  The memories confused her.  "I love you," she said simply to her daughter.

"Love you too, Mom," Erin said, still not looking up from the sink.

Erin didn't get on Skype that night, she wanted to be alone.

One morning while eating breakfast Erin watched her mother as she straightened up the kitchen.  Her mother was wearing pants and a blouse that day, and Erin's eye examined her.  Still a pretty good butt for her age, and not getting chubby like other women in their 50s.  Boobs are still bigger than mine.  Pretty good body for an old lady, actually.... I would probably look like that someday.  Too bad I'll never get that old.  Erin didn't think about what she'd just thought, it just seemed obvious.

Weeks went by and Erin grew more and more numb, emotionally, and didn't even think to be concerned about it.  It was just easier to feel nothing.  Her tutor was teaching her about ecology now and wanted to take her to the park near their apartment building to look the the trees and fish and fungus or whatever, so Erin just went along.  The heat and sunlight were surprising to her, she suddenly thought to wonder how long it had been since she had left the apartment.  She couldn't remember, and didn't care.  They got to the park and her tutor, a middle aged, heavy set woman with a German accent, was explaining to her something about how the tree and fungus were symbiotic, or something, but Erin was distracted by a man walking a dog not far away.  The dog was a girl and she seemed really anxious to get to a larger dog, nearby... she overheard the man telling the other man, "Sorry, she's in heat."  Erin knew what that meant.  The horny girl dog was straining, the man holding the leash firmly, attached to the collar around her neck.  She could see the girl dog straining against her leash and collar, she could see the larger boy dog trying to get to her, and she could see that the boy dog was turned on, too.  Erin knew well what an aroused male looked like.

Erin looked at the little dog, with her collar.  So anxious to get fucked, but the collar controlling her.  Erin was suddenly aware of the feeling of her cotton panties against her 12 year old clit, and the fact that she was suddenly very aroused and very wet.  She was confused and stunned beyond thought, I haven't been like this since John.

Erin couldn't think of anything but her wet pussy for the rest of her tutoring session, and when she was finally alone in her room she stripped off her clothes and fell into bed, her fingers between her legs... but she couldn't get there.  She tried until her pussy was sore and dry and her fingers tired and then she just cried out and rolled onto her side, weeping in frustration.  When she was calm again she played out what had happened in her head, and she came to a startling, and shameful conclusion.... and she wondered if her mom would let them get a dog.
