Just Another Spanking

By

Y Lee Coyote <YLeeCoyote@juno.com>

The boy's howls filled the neighborhood once again.  Mixed with the howls were the reverberation of many hard spanks as the lad, naked across his mother's lap, turned red at both ends.  At one end from crying and at the other from the hard, repeated pounding of his bottom by his mother's hand.

The neighbors looked at each other meaningfully.  She had her hands full with that kid.

"I heard talk that he is the Messiah." said one.

"There were those visitors in the night" said another.  "and all those specials claims, too."

"That's sure not the way to treat the Messiah." said a third.

"Ha!" snorted the fourth.  "To Mary he's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy."

The End

This was inspired by Max Ernest's painting  The Virgin spanking the Infant Jesus before three witness: A.B., P.E. and the artist, 1926.  There are several images of this picture available one is at:  http://www.duke.edu/web/lit132/spanking.html.  I've actually seen the real picture at an MoMA exhibit a few years ago and the web image is pretty good.  It is also available in some books.

I liked this a lot.  The use of the last line was done very adroitly.  The entire story arced towards the conclusion, although it still came as a surprise.  Very nicely done, and thank you for sending it along.

Hummmmm...clever idea...but it didn't do much for me...I liked the style...but it left me wanting more...needing something else to be said.

Of course, the Max Ernst is the perfect reference for this line. Like the Ernst painting, Y. Lee's story is really an elaborate joke, and he uses the punchline perfectly. Maybe it could be expanded a little, to give the joke a greater resonance, but the story works in this brief form too.

Archivist's note:  This image was selected by Pab for the 2004 SSC.

An extremely funny and original story which made me laugh out loud. Monty Python references can be overdone, but this one is perfectly judged and extremely witty. A hilarious and perfectly executed story.
