A flash story is a very short story. It's meant to be a story, not just a scene. How well I am doing with that remains to be seen <G>. Flash is new to me, and I don't know how good these are, but they're a lot of fun to write.

The definition of flash--in terms of maximum word-count--varies. You'll see 300, 500, as much as 1000. I use the happy medium, 500. So, for me, a flash is an attempt to write an entire story in 500 words or less.

The ideas for these are coming like gangbusters, so there will be more.

The first couple of flashes I did seemed to lend themselves to one-word titles. So, I decided--rather arbitrarily--that all my flashes would have one-word titles. Fine.

While stuck in traffic on my way to Atlantic City in August, I came up with a little game. Pick the word that's going to be the title first, and try to write to it. So, that's why they're write-to-the-title flashes. If I came up with any sort of idea at all, I wrote the story.

Since this is an exercise, some of these are good, and some aren't <G>.

The titles with asterisks at the beginning were written from titles suggested by my readers, which was another fun thing to do. If you've got a one-word title that you want to dare me to make into a flash story <G>, send it on in!

This surprise is also not a squick, I just didn't want to give it away. And all apologies to Bruce Springsteen. <G>

The hidden code is not a squick, and you'll probably all get it instantaneously <G> but it's not actually said in the story so I didn't want it in the codes. It's at the end if you're confused.

Blame The Beatles for that particular inspiration <G>
