In Loving Memory
Story Code: M/F, MM/F, M/FF, Voyeurism, Exhibitionism, Incest, Bro/Sis Author's Note: I've written this story in the male voice from the point of view of Brian Clarke My father was born in 1926 so he was 13 years old when war broke out, he wanted to volunteer to join the army as soon as the news broke that war had been declared. Dad ran straight to the local recruitment office to join up but he was sent away because he looked so young, the recruiter told him to come back with his birth certificate to prove that he was seventeen. Dad was the youngest of three sons, his middle brother Earnest had died in infancy as so many did in those days, dad found Earnest's birth certificate and simply wrote Gordon in front of Earnest on the certificate and became the nineteen year old Gordon Earnest Clarke. Even though dad looked so young, he had a birth certificate that said that he was nineteen so he was signed up for the infantry but while he was on his six week basic training, he fell from twenty feet high while on the obstacle training ground. He took a bad break to his right leg that left him with a permanent limp and so he was invalided out of the army before he'd really gotten started. My dad couldn't go to war but he still did his bit, he joined the Observer Corps. Dad was posted to North Yorkshire, three young men, all rated 'Four-F' by the Army Medical Corps, the four of them lived in a tent on top of Dorkin's Crag for three months before the Government delivered them a wooden shed to survive the winter. Dorkins Crag was a local highpoint, two hundred feet high, a wood covered slope to the west and a shear cliff face to the east. Their observation didn't have a view to the west but to the east, they could see for forty miles to the Yorkshire coast and out to sea beyond. The four young men spent the whole war perched on top of that crag, looking out to sea, they reported on German flights coming over the English channel, they reported on parachutists from downed aircraft, both friend and foe alike. My dad met a local girl during his off duty time and as soon as the war ended, they married in the closest church to the Crag. My dad had to return to Northampton after he was stood down from the Observer Corps, there were no jobs for a man with a permanently damaged leg, he only needed one good leg to work an 'Upper stitching machine' in his father's shoe factory. My earliest memories were of the crag, my mother, father me and my sister Susan would stop at Cragside Guesthouse, Mrs Cavendish's house, for the same two weeks in the summer every year. Mrs Cavendish had two letting rooms so Sue and I shared one bedroom while our parents shared the other, that was okay until I was thirteen and Sue was eleven and the following year, Sue and mum had one room and me and dad the other. Sue had suddenly developed into a shapely woman and it was decided that Sue was too old to share a room with her brother. Mother had lots of family in the area and for the most part, mum, Sue and I visited her family, we went to the seaside town of Scarborough a few miles to the east and we spent one day on top of the crag with dad. Dad on the other hand had the same routine every year, at dawn on our first day, dad would take a folding chair up to the top of the crag with his WWII binoculars from the Observer Corps and he would sit until twilight looking out to the east, keeping watch the way he had done during the war. I stopped visiting the crag with my parents when I was eighteen and went off to university, Sue stopped the same year, she was only sixteen but she ran off to marry Barry, a thirty year old man that my father described as a spiv...it was obvious what Barry saw in Sue, a vivacious teenager and as far as we could tell, Sue wanted an older more experienced man as a lover. Barry took Sue to London and they lived the high life in the Capitol. I lost touch with my sister for close to thirty years until out of the blue, one hot summer's day, when a Police Officer knocked on my door with some bad news. My father was on his usual holiday at Cragside Guest House and had passed away. It wasn't unusual for the police to act in that way, what was unusual was that the message about my father's death was passed to the police by my sister who didn't know where I lived or what my telephone number was. The only part that was unusual in the 'Transaction' was that the Police Officer handed me a slip of paper with Susan's telephone number on it and he said, "Your sister would like you to call her!" Well, I phoned Sue, the landlady at the guest house had phoned Sue, she found Sue's telephone number in my father's papers, my dad didn't need my number written in his address book because he knew it off by heart as we lived close together and had very similar telephone numbers. Sue wanted to go up to Dorkin's Crag and she was wondering if I'd like to share the trip with her, her plan was to come up from London to Northampton on the early train, share the journey up to North Yorkshire with me in my car. There would be two hundred miles to drive, mostly on motorways so, including a toilet break, we should be in in Scarborough, the administrative centre for the Dorkins Crag area, by one o'clock in the afternoon. We would probably have to formally identify our father's body and get the paperwork started, then run out to Cragside Guesthouse, pack our father's stuff up and then for Sue to drive my father's car back down to Northampton after we'd sorted everything out up there and Sue would go home to London on the last train, all done in one day. It had been almost thirty years since I'd last seen Susan but it was like it was yesterday, we had been ultra close growing up, just two years difference in age and all those years that we'd shared a room on holiday when we were even closer (Wink wink). I drove my car, it was motorway almost all the way so the journey should have been quick but because of breakdowns, car crashes and road works on the way, our four hour drive actually took eight hours so we decided to go straight to Cragside Guesthouse, see if we could get two rooms in the village for the night and sort everything out in the morning of the following day. If I'd been driving to Leicester or Coventry after not being there for five years, I'd have needed to use sat-nav because big cities changed their road layouts regularly, they seemed to play at planning, it had been thirty years since I'd last visited Dorkin's Crag but I knew that I'd be able to drive straight to the nearby village where Cragside Guesthouse was. The village looked exactly as it had the last time I was there but for one point, Cragside Guesthouse's hanging sign in the front garden was missing so I couldn't quite spot the right house. Fortunately I spotted a local woman, she was loaded down with shopping bags and had just got off the bus from Middlesbrough. "Excuse me madam, I'm looking for Cragside Guesthouse, I'm sure it was around here somewhere! Have you ever heard of it?" She looked at me and smiled, she was in her mid to late thirties and had the same smile as Sue, "I haven't heard that name for a long time, you must be Brian and Sue, Gordon's children." "How do you know our father?" She held out her hand to shake mine, "I'm Roberta Cavendish, my mother owned the guest house and after she passed away, I converted the old guesthouse into three flats...I live in the ground floor flat and I rent the other two out to give me an income." "Couldn't you make a living from the guesthouse?" "We could in the past but people don't have rambling holidays like they used to...at its peak, this village had five guesthouses but they've all gone now, the larger houses have all been split into 'Yuppie' apartments." I butted in, "But my father has been coming here every year since the end of the war and he always says he stops at the Cragside Guesthouse." "He does...did...still come for his two weeks holiday every year, I let him stop with me in my spare bedroom for two weeks. It was me that found him out on the crag, he didn't turn up after sunset so I went out looking for him, he was just sitting on his seat with his binoculars, like he did every day that he was up here." Sue stepped in and hugged Roberta as telling us about our father had caused her distress, she had obviously known our father for all of her life, Sue thanked her for looking after our father. Roberta wiped her eyes, "Have you come to collect Gordon's things?" Sue stepped aside and I said, "Well, I was hoping to get two rooms here in the village for tonight so that we can get the ball rolling first thing in the morning." "You can use Gordon's bedroom, it has a double bed and I'm sure that it won't be the first time that you two have shared a bed in your lives." Roberta took us to her little flat, then Sue said, almost as an afterthought, "Where's dad's car?" "When people stopped rambling the full length of the path, the council put three car parks in, one of them is in the wood on the west side of the crag, it saved your father an hour to be able to drive to the crag's car park and just walk up the hill from there." Roberta took us into dad's bedroom, one wall had at least thirty framed pictures hanging on it, almost totally covering one wall. I spotted the wedding photograph that my father had at his house...the photograph had my mother in her white wedding dress, my father in his Royal blue boiler suit and black beret with Royal Observer Corps insignia gleaming in the sun...no, it wasn't the picture from home, in this photograph, there were two other men in the same uniform flanking my mum and dad, at home, the picture was just of the two of them. "Does my dad bring all of these pictures with him every year?" Roberta shook her head, "No, Gordon left the pictures here all year, this room was like his little shrine..." I was examining the wedding picture closely, "I wonder if these two fellows were two of dad's watch...I think there were four of them up on the crag all throughout the hostilities." Roberta stepped in closer, "That's Richard Denning on the right and William Black on the left, the third man died in the month before D-Day...there's a newspaper cutting about that April night over here." Roberta pointed out another picture frame on the wall, it was a newspaper cutting, it showed four men all in their dark boiler suits and three were wearing their black berets while one had a bandaged head...
I read the newspaper clipping and then looked back at the wedding photograph, "Did Robert take this photograph?" "No, my grandmother took that picture, she was engaged to Robert King before the war started, he was a little older than the other three on that hill top, he took a massive blow to the head from the gun but of the German pilot, the medics bandaged him up, checked him for concussion and said he was fine and he went back to the hut on top of the Crag. The medics never suspected that he could have had internal injuries, he looked okay to them but he had a small bleed on the brain, he died the day after that picture was taken!" Sue was empathetic as usual, "Gosh, it must have been terrible for your grandmother to have been there at her fiancé's friend's wedding after he had died so terribly just a few months earlier." I saw a large buff envelope on the dresser under the window, "What's that?" Roberta looked at where I was looking, "Oh...that's the stuff from the Coroner's office!" I opened the envelope and looked inside, "This is a death certificate...how can they issue one of them without an autopsy?" "Your father was being seen by the doctor for a terminal condition." "What...what the hell, how come he didn't tell me that he had a terminal diagnosis but he told you?" "Because my doctor was looking after him while he was up here stopping here, I arranged it for him, his own doctor in Northampton didn't want him to come up here, he wanted him down in Northampton for his daily injections until my doctor agreed that he would give your father his daily injections while he was up here." I pulled the death certificate out of the envelope and read the details, then I turned the certificate towards my sister, all the details about our father were correct but the part that had drawn my attention was the field, 'Reported by: Roberta Clarke Cavendish...Relationship to deceased: Daughter' Sue looked shocked, "Roberta, this says that you're our father's daughter!" "I'm sorry that you had to find out this way but I'm your half sister, thirty years ago, way after my mother thought that she was safe from falling pregnant, she and our father were careless during his annual visit and my mother fell pregnant with me." Now it was my turn to be shocked, I said, "Our father went with your mother behind our mother's back?" "No, not behind your mother's back, our mother's were friends from school and they shared everything...including their husbands." Sue said, "I need to go for a walk, I need to think things through!" "Before you go, there's another shock coming! Your father left me a note, giving me instructions about his funeral...he knew that he was going to die soon!"
Roberta handed me the letter in my father's hand writing:
"What the hell does this mean?" "When your mother passed away, your father cremated her remains and he split the ashes over two urns, one he burred in your local church and the other he brought up here, there is a local by-law that forbids the scattering of ashes in the park but your father got permission to put up a plaque to the work of the Observer Corps and their post on top of Dorkin's Crag during the war and to note Robert King's sacrifice while capturing the enemy, he put your mother's ashes under the plaque and that's where he wants the other half of his ashes to go so that he is forever with your mother and keeping watch over his hill!" Today was just getting stranger and stranger, I needed to go for a walk now as well as Susan! "If you're going out for a walk, go up to the car park by Dorkin's Crag and bring your father's car down, it's been up there for two nights already, I'll be surprised if it has all four wheels on it still after all that time!" "Where's the plaque you mentioned?" "If you walk up onto the crag, you'll find your father's folding seat is still up there, the plaque is set in the ground, two feet in front of the seat." I stormed out of Roberta's flat, leaving Sue and Roberta talking. I had a lot to think about, in just two minutes I discovered that my parents had a double life, publicly a devoted married couple until my mother passed away and now I discovered that far from devoted to each other, they'd had a long term swinging relationship with my mother's old school friend and her husband and that at the age of sixty seven, I discovered that I had a thirty-five year old sister that I knew nothing about. Sue ran after me and she caught me at the edge of the village, "We'd better go and fetch dad's car, it's already been out at the car park for two nights already, Roberta tells me that we have to drive to the car park, they put the car park on the road from Middlesbrough to York." I let Sue talk me into driving her to the car park, it was a six mile drive to cover what would have been a two mile walk. As I drove into the car park I spotted my father's car parked at the highest point of the car park, highest point and closest to the ridge where he sat all day whenever he came to the area. As I drove through the gateway I spotted a movement, there were two cars parked on the right, hidden from the road but visible as soon as we were in the car park, there was a tall man standing between the cars, it looked like he was pressing his abdomen against one of the cars, he suddenly jumped away and turned his back with his hands positioned roughly where his fly would have been on his trousers. I parked next to my father's car and then looked back to the two parked cars, the tall man had been leaning against the driver's door of one of the cars and now I saw the driver climbing out of the car. The tall man must have had his cock through the window of the car for the driver to play with him or to suck his cock through the open window. I checked my father's car, everything looked okay so Sue and I set out to walk along the broad path up through the woodland to the east, heading for the viewing point at top of the crag. The two men from the other parked cars started following us, I looked over my shoulder and then at my sister, "I wonder why they're following us?" "This is probably a dogging place in the evenings!" "Neither of the men have dogs..." "Not that kind of dogging, a place where people go to watch other's having sex in public with the hope of joining in!" I laughed, "You've lived in the capitol for too long, this is sleepy North Yorkshire! It's probably just a coincidence that they're walking the same way as us...apart from that, just look at the two of us, who on earth would think that we'd be coming up here for sex?." Sue punched me playfully, "Cheeky bastard, I'm not past it...I'm still in my sexual prime..." "I don't know where I am in my sexual cycle, I haven't even thought about sex since Dawn divorced me." Sue looked all around us, she spotted a gap in the wall of undergrowth "Okay, we'll take the path to the right, see if they follow us...hey, didn't Dawn divorce you ten years ago?" I nodded my head. "Fucking hell...are you telling me that you haven't had sex for ten years?" I nodded my head again. "I couldn't go ten days without a fuck...I'd go mad if I had had to go a fortnight without..." The path to the right wasn't as well trodden as the main path, it was really only wide enough for one person to walk along it comfortably but Sue and I walked along it side by side. After thirty yards the path suddenly widened out into a twelve foot diameter circle but then it came to an end, the circle was devoid of greenery but it looked like a rubbish dump for used tissues, used condoms, torn foil condom wrappers and torn sachets of lubricant. I looked over my shoulder, the two men were at the point in the path where it started to widen out into the tissue dump. I said, "What do we do now?" Sue smiled at me, she reached out with her left hand and rubbed the front of my trousers where my cock was sleeping, she smiled at me as she hooked her right hand around the back of my neck, she pulled my mouth to hers, "What's the matter, you used to love me rubbing you like this when we were kids!" She kissed me as she unzipped my trousers and pulled my cock out. She broke our kiss and shuffled backwards slightly, she parted her legs by eighteen inches and then bent at the waist, she said, "Can you remember the first time I did this to you?" Sue sucked my flaccid cock into her mouth and instantly started to breathe life into my cock, as she sucked me she wiggled her arse in the direction of the two watching men. The taller of the two walked into the circle of spent condoms, he smiled at me and then flipped the back of Sue's dress up over her hips, exposing her knickers, not the full on granny knickers that my ex used to wear, Sue was sixty five years old but still wore impossibly sexy knickers. He pulled her knickers down and I watched as he rolled a condom down his cock, he tore the corner off of a sachet of lubricant, dribbled a little of the slippery liquid down the crack of her bum before coating the condom liberally with the lubricant. The man stepped into Sue and rammed his hips against her buttocks so hard that she gasped in pain and as she gasped she took the head of my cock into her throat. When Sue used to suck my cock when we were younger my cock didn't reach so far into her mouth...I must have grown over the years but then I had nothing to gauge it against, my wife steadfastly refused to touch my cock with her hands, never mind sucking me off and in the latter years of our marriage, I was only allowed into her bed on my birthday. So, probably ten years of one fuck a year, then the divorce and then no sex at all for ten years. The tall man was fucking my sister quite hard, she had stopped gasping in pain but had managed to keep the head of my cock engaged in her throat...I suddenly thought that I must have been wrong about his target being her arse hole as she had just settled into him fucking her hard with ease, it must have just been the suddenness of his assault on her vagina that caused her to gasp. The shorter man was now edging around the outside of the circular midden, he had his cock out of his trousers and was holding it in his left hand, rubbing it up and down. He seemed totally disinterested in Sue, he came to my side and stroked his right hand over my bottom and went to kiss me but I pulled away, pulled away from him but also pulled away from Sue's mouth. Sue lost my cock but that didn't bother her, she just reached out for the shorter man and took his cock in her mouth and started sucking all over again. I hadn't come close to an orgasm and the short man seemed totally disinterested in having his cock sucked by my sister. Sue on the other hand was loving the fucking she was getting from the much younger man and he was loving it too. I heard...rather than saw...him run through his orgasm before pulling his cock out of my sister's body, the brown sheen on the outside of the condom told me that I had been right in my first thought that the tall man had been using Sue's bum but the way he was fucking her, that wasn't anywhere close to the first time that she'd had a cock pounding into her arse. I watched the tall man rip the condom off of his cock and throw it on the ground along with all of the rest, Sue reached for her knees to pull her knickers up and then she stood up, hooked her right hand in the crook of my left arm and as she pulled me away from the circle in the woods, I looked back and saw the short man rolling a condom down his cock as the tall man pulled his own trousers down and bent forward with the shorter man behind him. We were out of sight before the two men got down to business together. We headed back to the main path and continued on our way to the top of the hill without saying anything about what had just happened in the wood. At the top of the climb, there was forty feet of grass before the two hundred foot shear cliff face. I spotted dad's folding chair at the apex of the crag but it wasn't empty, there was a young man sitting on our father's seat, he had proper walking boots on...or rather one walking boot on, the other was on the grass at the side of the seat, he was nursing his ankle. "Are you alright mate?" The man sitting on dad's chair almost jumped out of his skin at my question out of the clear blue sky. "I have twisted my damned ankle, it could be broken even. I turned my foot over about a quarter of a mile to the north of here, I was trying to get to the car park, see if anyone was parked there but there is a bus every hour that passes the car park if no one else is there. It took me an hour to hobble this far and when I saw this chair I needed to rest a while...made a mistake, I took my boot off to look at my foot and now I can't get the bloody thing back on." I knelt in front of him and I squeezed his big toenail between my thumb and index finger, he winced in pain and as I let got of his big toe I started to count under my breath...I gave Sue a worried look over my shoulder, I'd reached to ten and the nail of his big tow was still white. Sue had noticed exactly what I'd seen but she tried not to look as worried as I did. The blood wasn't circulating properly and there was a slight blue tinge to the toes on his exposed foot. I took a quick look around, saw the granite slab set in the grass, there were something like two hundred letters carved into the slab, the usual charge for carving letters of that size was around two pounds a letter and my dad had paid for it, the story of the Observer Corp's time on that hill top as well as the death of Robert King after tackling three armed German airmen while he himself was unarmed. The memorial part of the granite flagstone had been surrounded by two deep carved lines as a boarder and at the bottom of the flag was Mary Clarke on the left, just outside the boarder and on the right was Gordon Clarke...strangely enough, mum used to sleep on the left hand side of the bed and dad on the right so that granite slab was almost reflecting their bed at home from years ago. I could tell that the grass at that small area had been regularly cut and the granite memorial looked like it was laid just yesterday even though it was over fifteen years old, tending the area was probably down to my father. I'd managed to compose myself before I looked back at the rambler. "What's your name mate?" "I'm John...don't laugh...John Walker!" "Well John, if you don't want to have to change your name to John Hopper, I'm going to have to get you down to the car park as quickly as possible. I gave Sue both sets of car keys, "You run on ahead of us, start dad's car and check that the fuel tank is above a quarter full and start the engine to get it warmed up, I'll take dad's car as it's faster than mine, open the front passenger door and push the seat back as far as it will go and wait for us to get there please!" I picked John's boot up off the floor and put it on his lap, "Right John, Hold on to the seat as tightly as you can!" I stood behind John with my back to him and reached behind me for the back of the seat and tilted him back on the seat and then I set off at a fast walk, dragging John and the seat behind me. It was hard work but the seat slid over the grass leaving two tramlines on the sword. John's ride was smooth over the grass but far more bumpy over the path in the woods, stones and tree roots bouncing him about. I helped John into my father's car, closed the door and looked at Sue, "Phone Middlesbrough A&E, let them know I'm heading in with a serious injury." I made sure that John was fastened in tightly and set off like a bat out of hell. The speed limit on the road to Middlesbrough was sixty miles an hour, I was driving at closer to one hundred miles an hour for most of that journey. Sue had made a good job of explaining the problem with John to the hospital, she'd told them to expect us in fifteen minutes, not a bad time for a twenty mile drive, it had actually taken me thirty seconds longer than Sue had estimated. As I skidded into the hospital car park, I was met by a doctor who made the same test on John's big toe that I had done out on the crag and came to the same conclusion as I had. John was out of the car, on a trolley with a team of nursing staff around him, one nurse was washing his foot and ankle while another was putting a cannula into the back of John's left hand. John was asleep before the trolley made it into the hospital. I drove back to Cragside at a more sedate pace and found Sue and Roberta cooking dinner and drinking wine together while getting to know each other. I was like a man at a tennis match over dinner looking from Sue to Roberta and back as the two women flirted with each other, they did hit a few balls into the crowd from time to time when they included me in their flirtations and after a very long dinner Sue said that it was time for bed. I shook my head, "You can't go to sleep straight after a big dinner, you need to work the food off first!" "I'm going to bed...didn't say anything about sleep!" Sue took Roberta's hand and pulled her to her feet and then she winked at me, "Time for you to come to bed as well dearest brother!" The last time Sue and I shared a bed, I was fourteen and Sue was twelve, Sue had only just started to grow breasts on top and wisps of hair down below, Sue was reluctant to go all the way, she'd been having her periods for six months and had been told that now that she was menstruating regularly, she could be made pregnant if she did anything silly. Sue was happy to masturbate me, happy to suck my cock for me but didn't want me to go all the way...I on the other hand...I was desperate to finally get my cock inside a girl...any girl but the girl that was about to step into bed with me back then was my little sister. I rather forced myself on her in the end, I had to promise to pull out before I shot her in the pussy but once I got started I was a boulder rolling down the mountain, nothing was going to stop me until I reached the bottom of the hill. Sue discovered that she liked my cock in her cunt far more than she liked my fingers in there...and she really loved my fingers in her. Once I got started Sue wouldn't have let me stop either, and she verbalised her pleasure to the point that it alerted our parents to what we were doing and that was the last time that we were allowed to share a bedroom together. The next night, I was sent to my parent's room and my mother bunked in with Sue. Sue and Roberta undressed each other while I sat on the bed watching. Seeing the two women playing with each other certainly woke my cock up from its ten year sleep and after the girls had given each other pleasure for the fifth time, Sue started on me, I was stripped naked by both of my sisters and then the fun began in earnest. The three of us fucked until dawn, I fucked more in those few hours than I'd fucked my wife through thirty years of marriage and I loved every thrust. First thing in the morning, I went into the administrative centre and sorted out everything I needed to do. It had been my intention to transport my father's body back to Northampton and either bury him there in the local churchyard or have him cremated and his ashes placed in the same plot as our mother but after finding out that our mother had been divided over two locations, there seemed little point in paying five hundred pounds to transport my father's body the two hundred miles back to Northampton and then wait for a time slot in our local church for the funeral and that would coincide with a space at the crematorium. I just booked his body into the Middlesbrough crematorium, I didn't even use a funeral director, I just got a last minute slot in the crematorium, there were after all only three of us to consider as my father had outlived all of his family. We ended up stopping in Cragside for another night and went to the Crematorium at nine o'clock the following morning. Nine o'clock didn't seem a popular time at crematoriums, it was just too early in the morning for the number of people that usually turned up at a funeral. Sue, Roberta and I walked into the chapel to find forty people waiting there for us. It was the King family, Robert King's relatives, they had always been grateful to our father for keeping the memory of their ancestor alive, we discovered that our father also tended Robert's grave every year when he visited the area and had fresh flowers placed on his grave once a month by a local florist. After the cremation, the three of us went to the local monumental mason to have two identical stone urns engraved with dad's name, his date of birth and also his date of death, the mason was surprised that we needed two identical urns until he flicked back through his records and spotted that our father had done exactly the same thing when our mother passed away. The mason smiled at us, "I usually take a week to carve an urn, it takes two days to guild the letters after carving them." "We don't need the wording gilding, the urns will be buried as soon as we get them." "You don't usually bury these types of urns, they usually stand on top of the ash plot to act as markers, the ashes will come in a plastic urn that is what usually gets interred!" "You already know that we're unconventional." The mason pulled his current job off of the carving machine and put our urns into the machine right away, the urns were ready by six o'clock that evening and when we collected them we found that the inscriptions had actually been gilded but not with the usual gold paint that would take two coats and need time to set, a member of the King family had brought in real sheet gold and had applied it themselves so we were about to bury urns decorated with twenty-two karat gold inscriptions. I drove from the mason's to the town hall to shame them into allowing us to put a memorial bench at the spot that our father had died, they didn't want to as the council would be responsible for looking after the bench but I told them that I was willing to have a solid granite block of stone carved by the local stone mason into a seat shape so that it wouldn't need any maintenance. It was dusk on top of the crag when we arrived with the new urn half full of our father's ashes, there was a large group waiting for us and the granite slab had been removed and a hole dug in the earth at the base of the slab to receive our father's ashes. I placed the urn in the hole and four men moved the slab back into position. My father's name was now directly above his ashes. An elderly man came over to me to shake my hand, he was Robert's younger brother, he introduced me to his grandson, Calum King, "Calum will take over looking after his great Uncle's memorial from now on, he'll keep the stone clean and clear of weeds." We went to a restaurant for dinner, Sue asked how much our father had paid for his car last year when he bought it brand new, "Thirty-five thousand pounds!" "And if we put it up for sale now, how much would we get for it?" "About seven thousand pounds on a good day." Sue looked at Roberta, "Why don't we just leave the car here for Roberta to use." Roberta looked shocked, "No...you can't do that, I can't even drive!" Sue patted Roberta's hand and said, "Well, that's easy to sort out, you can do an intensive driving course and you'd be driving in no time at all."
