Overview

The Anniversary Festival is called:

Song Stories Festival

and will occur on ASSTR's Anniversary, which is November 10 this year. The primary theme is songs that tell a story. The festival will include stories from many authors and cover themes of interest to many readers.

Festival guidelines are contained in a following section. Stories are not required to be any genre but need to fit into one of the four festival categories. These are not very restrictive. There is no 'evaluation' of the stories except for the minimal moderation used on ass.m so it is up to each author to ensure that his or her story fits the spirit of the Festival. Knowing who is going to participate, I doubt if this will be a problem.

We are hoping for a lot of new stories to celebrate ASSTR’s Anniversary. We hope to show off our abilities with wonderful new and varied stories. We will however, allow authors to repost previous work if it fits within one of the categories. NOTE: Please put RP in your subject line, as stories will be posted in their respective sections, rather than their own category.

I could use some help. If you know of an author who writes romance, could you ask the person to join in? Feel free to send this newsletter to anyone who wants to read it, or refer the person to me and I'll take care of the details. The author does not have to be a person who normally posts to ass.m.

I'm excited about this event and hope we have the best festival ever!

Participation

There are four story categories and an author can participate in any or all of them. I plan on having something for each category and hope that others feel like being in more than one event.

Stories can be submitted now or anytime up until November 8 at midnight, EST. The festival stories will be released ahead of anything else that is supposed to show up on ass.m that day. I suspect it will take many hours for all the stories to show up and possibly more in some parts of the world. The normal method used is to release one story and then wait for some time before releasing the next. I assume ass.m administration will follow this method as they have done in the past.

Story Guidelines

There are four categories for writers. One if for the poet in us, One for those of us who feel mood in music, and the last is for those of us who wonder what the rest of the story to a particular song was.

Authors are free to be in any or all of the festival games and I hope we see multiple participation from everyone who has the time.

Here are the details for each category.

Mood Challenge

These stories should incorporate a song or piece of music as a major plot device.  (Simply saying that they danced to a certain piece of music is not a plot device.)  If someone knew the piece of music, they should be able to read the story and say it reminds them of the piece, without ever reading the song title. Music for this piece can be lyric or instrumental. The words and tone should have the feel of the song. While it is not restricted to it, these stories are likely to be flash pieces.

Song Story Challenge

Stories in this section should attempt to fill in, or expand already existing lyrics. Ballads work well, but acceptable stories are not limited to them. For this challenge, the author must either include the lyrics in their file, or a link to where they might be found, for those who are unfamiliar with the song.

Song Flashback Challenge

This category is for those whose lives are ruled by music. Simply hearing a line from a song will bring back memories of old lovers, high school high jinks, torrid love affairs. In these stories, all that is required is the song is a trigger. This does not mean it can't be used throughout, however.

Lyric Challenge

I know many of us dabble in poetry, and really, that is all lyrics are, right? The challenge is simple, write lyrics, in any style, preferably bawdy.

Story Submission Guidelines

Stories can be submitted to ass.m as of now. There are a few things to take into consideration before doing this.

Stories should follow the posting rules for ass.m I will not go into this since most already know how to do it. If there are any questions contact me at gbbjg@yahoo.com and I'll try to help out.

Story codes should be completed in the usual way.

The subject line of the post requires (Song Fest) at the start of the line so the moderators at ass.m can identify the story as being part of the festival. Make sure to include the opening and closing brackets. The moderators will then hold the stories until the festival date. Rey del Sexo sent a memo to the moderators letting them know about this.

The Subject line of your post should look like this:

{ASSM} (Song Fest) Title, Author, Codes ASSTR Website

There will be a website for stories submitted to the Festival. If you do not want your story to be part of the Festival Website, just mention in the story post prior to the start of the story. Otherwise the story will be included in the permanent record for this event.

Other Questions

I assume there will be questions. If so send them to me at gbbjg@yahoo.com and I'll do the best I can to answer them.
