Chapter 7
The cold shower managed to calm me down. I wanted to finish
it off but was afraid of what Alyssa had in store for me. I
quickly finished washing up and realized I didn't have a
towel.
The afternoon sun was shining through the spaces between the
boards that made up the walls of the shower. I knew it was
to early in the day for me to hideout in the shower until
dark.

around me and charged out of the shower towards the towel

The silence from the street got my attention. I towards the

I turned away and ran up the stairs and into the house.
I ran right into my room and dropped my towel to the floor

After a minute of fumbling around the socks in the drawer I
realized that socks were all I could see. In a panic I began
to throw the socks out of the top drawer. I knew I there was

"Tommy!!" I heard Alyssa yell as the last sock hit the floor
behind me. Without thinking I quickly turned around to face
my step mother. I could tell by her smile as she looked down

Even in the corner the sunshine still cast a warming glow on

sounds from outside as Alyssa spoke on the phone. Each voice

The shadow of every person walking past the house was cast

instructions.
"Finish your two hours in the corner Tommy, then you can fix
yourself a snack. Don't bother to get dressed and don't
answer the door unless it is my girls."
The door swung open before Alyssa had it completely shut.
"Oh Dina and Tonya might be back tonight. If they get back
after your two hours then why don't you just hang out in
your room(with the door shut) for the night."
My step mother had explained that her friend on the island
had car trouble in a bad area and warned me that she would
be home late tonight.
A half an hour after Alyssa left I was running around the
house like I was The King. I had closed most of the shades
as the last of the sun refused to set. Still naked I had the
TV and the stereo playing loudly and I danced around without
a care in the world.
I came dancing out of the bathroom swinging a towel wildly
over my head. I stopped cold in my tracks as I entered the
living room. The music stopped right after I did.
Dina stood in front of the fire place, completely dressed
too. She just stood staring at me with her hands on her
hips and an angry look on her face.
We stood just feet apart locked in each others stare. I

'Click' I heard as the TV turned off.
"So what's up cousin? Why was everything on if there is no

turned the TV off.
A thin girl around 5 foot 3 walked away from the TV after
she turned it off. The short girl with curly brown hair was

We all stood in silence for what felt like forever.

A loud knock on the door got everyone's attention. The
flashing red lights out side told us it was the island

A small yellow night light was the only source of light in

listened to Dina talk to the cops.

After asking Dina on a date the officers left. They promised
not to return tonight.
"Ok Lover boy!" Dina said pushing open the bathroom door and
turning on the light. She grabbed my other arm and pulled
me back into the living room. Darla followed close behind
still holding my wrist.
"Because of you I had to lie to the police Tommy. I don't
like lying to the police unless its for something I did.
When Alyssa hears about. This…." Dina stopped talking and
looked at Darla.

Darla broke her daze and both girls started laughing at me.

Dina just turned towards me with a "What did you say?" look

face. I regretted that look the second I made it.

what they thought they had started to make me.

her the name I was thinking.
"Call me that and I am sure Alyssa will have a field day
with your ass kid." Dina threatened. "Or maybe we don't tell
her?"
"Like you didn't tell her what really happened on the
beach." I challenged.
"That was just fun. Tonight I think your step mother could
re define the word trouble for your little butt." Dina
smiled at me. "Darla it seems safe to say that you have

"Nope sure haven't" Darla answered with a small laugh. I was
worried what could happen if the shy girl was brought out of
her shell by her cousin Dina.
