One day in late spring of my senior year of high school I was sitting in the hallway, having skipped math class. I was sitting in front of my locker doing some English homework, looking up from time to time as the occasional person walked past. For the most part tho, the hallway was deserted. Then I noticed a small blue/green thing, 2 inches long, on the wall opposite me. It was a Tent caterpillar, common in western Canada when the weather warms up around May/June. (Yes, we do sometimes get warm weather up here...) :-) I wondered how it'd gotten inside, since I was on the 2nd floor of the school. As I watched, it slowly crawled down the wall and started across the shiney white floor to the other side. At this moment, I heard footsteps approaching. Turning my head to the left, I saw Wendy come around the corner. Wendy was generally considered the best looking girl in school and had even done some local work as a model. (About 5ft 6in,long brown hair, blue eyes, perfect features. She was very easy on the eyes.) She was wearing a white summer dress with some kind of floral pattern, which came down to her knees. She was also wearing white pumps with 3 inch heels on her bare feet. She was walking briskly towards me, heels clacking on the hard floor. The caterpillar doggedly continued across the floor, stopping when he reached the middle, as if sensing the danger. I refused to get my hopes up. It was a wide hallway and I was certain Wendy could see the caterpillar; she'd avoid it for sure. But the Crush Gods were merciful to me that day. The caterpillar was directly in front of me, about 3 feet away. (The idiot had actually turned and started slowly crawling in the same direction that Wendy was walking, as if trying to outrun her...) Wendy meanwhile was looking up so as not to make eye contact with me (for we didn't really know each other.) So she wasn't looking down as she quickly narrowed the distance between herself and the tiny victim in her path... I heard her steps ringing loudly, 'Clack, clack, clack...' Then, time slowed down like in those Eatmore commercials as she took a few more steps. 'Clack, clack, clack, SPLUT!, clack, clack...' The caterpillar had disappeared beneath her right foot, the force of the impact squashing his guts out in a jet of green liquid. When she lifted her foot to continue walking, there was only a patch of green about the size of a quarter to mark where he had been. His body had been pressed flat into the sole of her shoe! When she put her right foot down again, he was smeared off, leaving another patch of green on the floor with his mangled body in the middle of it. Wendy didn't look back. She kept on walking and turned the corner. She didn't even notice that a tiny life had been crushed out beneath her shoe. I sat there, stunned and not a little turned on by the event. I could not believe what I'd just seen. As I moved over to get a better look at the carnage, I knew that it couldn't have worked out better if I'd staged it.
