I am a programmer/developer by trade. As a sideline, I run movie projectors here in a small town I live near. I do that twice a week. I open the theater, get the film ready to run, and monitor the equipment while the show plays out.

Behind the snack counter is a trap door in the floor. No shit. I've been doing this for about 6 months, and I just noticed the thing. I went in early one day to investigate it a little better.

You lift out this panel, and you can access the crawl space under the building. The panel will drop right back into place. The girl doing tickets and snacks will be standing on it most of her shift. That I thought was cool, but I really liked this.

If you move away from the opening, head in the direction of the theaters screen, you can get under the sloped floor of the theater itself. I can actually get under the floor, and right above, as many as 100 people might be sitting watching a movie. It's a wood floor, it's thick, I think two sheets of 5/8th firewall thick, so it doesn't move at all, but, you should hear what it sounds like.

On nights when I have nothing to do, I'll sneak in an hour before open time, and drop into the crawl space, and wait. I stay near the opening so I can have the concessionist walk all above me as she sets up, then, when I hear the first people arrive, I move toward the theater.

I use post it notes. While the theater is basically quiet, I follow the sound of footsteps. I listen for heel strike, lady's voices, I do my best to identify where in the theater the girls are sitting. I stick a post it on the floor so I know where they might be. There are times that I've located several girlfriends out to the show wearing heels of some type. You can hear them talk, you can hear each motion of their feet.

Before the show really gets started, I try to find my place. I get as comfortable as possible, I have a stethoscope, I duct tape it to the floor above beneath where the girl is sitting, I shut off the flashlight, and experience what it's like to be underfoot for an entire movie.

I love it when they tap their feet to music, slid them around as they fidget, stomp hard when the movie surprises them, laugh above me, drop a piece of candy or something, I feel like I'm the floor.

I'll move around a bit - from post-it to post-it to find the best girl to be under for the show. The one who fidgets the most, the one wearing the loudest heels. It's fun to imagine them sitting above, legs crossed, eating popcorn, sipping their drink and me just inches below the soles of their shoes.

I do this 2 or 3 times a month. It's a good 5 hours under the floor, but it's kinda fun.

Last time I was there it was a small crowd, so I explored a bit more. You can even get under the floor beneath the bathrooms. Tile floors, talk about heel strike sounds. I'm going to start moving over there right before the show lets out so I can get the rush of girls who've waited until the movie ended to relieve themselves. Thay should be an experience in sound to talk about.

Any ideas of what else could be done with this setup? I'd love to enhance the experience in any way possible. Give me some ideas here. What could make this more fun?
