Grad student hit-and-run

SWT Police are searching for a driver who hit a pedestrian on Comanche Street and Live Oak Street.

A 21-year-old graduate student was struck by a car as he and another graduate student passed Comanche St. at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.

Police reports state that after the driver hit the student, she stopped and got out of her car briefly, but did not render aid and quickly left the scene.

UPD Investigator Bill Strain said police have a "good description of the car" that the woman was driving. "It would be very good if she came forward and gave her insurance information like that rather than be discovered in a criminal investigation," Strain said.

Police reports state that the victim sustained scrapes and abrasions on his right arm, shoulder, hip and thigh which needed medical attention.

A composite sketch is being developed now based on descriptions given by eyewitnesses to the accident.

If the suspect were charged with failure to identify herself at the scene of the wreck, she could face a $2,000 fine and/or 180 days in jail.

"If she was on an emergency run, she should have at least left her driver's license [number] and stuff like that," Strain said.
