When Nathaniel Davis encountered Tamika Ross on June 21, she already had been hit in the
head and burned by a male acquaintance.
So, when Davis, a stranger, hit her for running over his hat, Ross took matters into her own hands and ran over him with her car, killing him, police said.
Yesterday, at a court hearing, Ross, 26, of Opal Street near Oxford, was held for trial on charges of murder, driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle while under the influence and related offenses. Bail was set at $50,000. Her arraignment is Aug. 26.
The mother of five allegedly ran down Davis, 38, on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near Nicholas Street at 10:10 p.m. June 21.
Ross told police she had been parked when Davis walked over and accused her of running over his hat. Ross told police she didn't know she had run over the hat and told Davis so. But Davis allegedly reached into her car and hit her and pulled her hair, anyway.
That's when Ross, who police said was legally drunk and high on cocaine, revved up her car and ran over Davis, killing him.
Police said they found the body a half block from where the dispute started. It was halfway in the street and halfway on the sidewalk. They arrested Ross.
Under questioning, police quoted Ross as saying, "He hit me so I ran him down."
