Summer Bug Crush

Geez...what a tough day I just had. It's been quite mild here as summers go so far, but today the heat started to kick in and suddenly the flying ants decided it was time to come up for air. These things are about an inch long, and they all emerge from their underground nests on the same day - so there's literally hundreds of the things crawling around. As they've only just emerged they can't fly for an hour or so while their wings dry out.

Anyway, I stood at bus stop and watched bug after bug get crushed under hundreds of uncaring female feet...most of them in open summer shoes and heels. Women were walking along, often in groups, chatting away, completely un-worried that they were crushing all these lives beneath their feet. It's hard to stand at a bus stop when you're that turned on. Hehe.

Just when I tought it couldn't get any better, two girls started jumping about - the ants had freaked one of them out - and they spent the next 10 minutes talking about how much they hated bugs and stamping on as many as they could find. To cap it all off, there was a women standing off to my left on her own who was having a cigarette...she kept peering at the ground. She was checking where ants were, then putting her foot on them, looking up as if nothing was going on and twisting her foot on them three or four times. I don't think she thought anyone was paying any attention, and she really seemed to be getting into it.

Anyway, I missed about 6 buses so I could stand there longer... Shame it only happens once a year.
