THE HIKER Part 1
   I was in Sri Lanka teaching English and had been for a break to the
capital and was now en route to a new position in a remote village I had
never been to before.  It was a place in an area quite removed from any
urban environment.  Apparently a charity organisation had put some money
together for a 6 month teaching contract and I had been offered the post.
It was a village although I shall neglect to give the name here.
   I had a small car, I'd been driving in Lanka for about 2 years now and
was quite used to the roads and conditions and of course had picked up the

   It was quite common to pass people on the dusty roads who would wave and
try to get lifts but I had been warned never to stop `just in case'.  On
this particular journey I decided to forget the advice.
   I was driving at night and it must have been around 8pm when my
headlights caught a vision of beauty.  A very pretty little Tamil girl was
standing in the middle of the road waving her arms about and I pulled up.
She walked over to my door and let the window down.
   "Will you give me a lift" she said.
   I looked around nervously, I wasn't sure if this was a trap of some kind
then I heard her say "I'm on my own and I need to get to my village, please

   "Its wonderful" she said "it can take me hours to walk".
   The engine was idling over and the fan was blowing cool air.  "You're
very pretty Mina" I said and as I said it I moved my hand a little further

   She smiled and said thanks but didn't move or pull away.
   "Actually I've been driving for a couple of hours already and was just
about to make a stop to have a rest so I think I will just pull over into
those trees off the road and have a short rest ok?"
   "That's fine" she said "I don't mind because I can go with you all the
way to my village now".
   I turned the interior light off, pulled the car over and parked it
amongst some bushes.  There were very few cars in this area and even fewer
at night but on the other hand privacy is always nice.
   I switched off the engine put the brake on and then turned to her, she
was still smiling.  "I'm a teacher" I said.
   "Oh I was told we were getting a teacher" she said "that's why I'm going
home to my Aunty's house."
   "What about your parents" I said.
   "They die already" she said and looked down "but my Aunt is nice" she
said and looked up smiling.
   "So where have you just come from" I said.
   "The capital, I've been working there to get money for my family" she
said.
   "Working" I said "youre only 10, what have you been doing".
   "Been working in a massage parlour" she said.
   "You mean a sex place" I said.
   "Yes I suppose so, you won't say will you" she looked directly into my
