Look at that moon, Rob..., it’s sure bright!”
“ Yep..., just like us..., bright and early.”
Seated behind the wheel of his SUV, Chris answered, “ You bet..., that’s what’s so great about the weekend..., we get to go hunting...leave the wife alone with the brats and take off up here...into the wilderness, get ourselves a dear or something..., I heard there’s allot of ‘em out there now.”

While Chris continued to drive the vehicle, moving along the lonely Oregon state route, he finally arrived at the entrance of a dirt road leading into a thick wooded area. Slowing down, Chris negotiated the turn and then drove a little faster, stirring the SUV over the rougher terrain.
“ Man are these woods dark!”, mentioned Rob, gazing to the side.
“ I know..., all we’ve got to guide us are these two headlights.”
At last, after another twenty minutes of driving, Chris pulled into an open clearing. Coming to a halt, the finally killed the engine and said, “ Ok..., it’ll be light in a half hour or so...we may as well just wait here, then reach for our guns and go hunting.”
Looking toward the back seat, Rob gazed down at the two rifles stretched across the cushioned vinyl and asked, “ They’re all set..., right?”
“ Oh yea, I cleaned ‘em up just like I said..., yours is fine too..., just drop it off at my place again next season and I’ll clean it again...”

Laughing a little, Rob reached down to the bench seat and took up his thermos, saying, “ Chris..., care for some coffee.”

After Rob removed the cup as suggested, he filled it for his buddy and gave it to the guy, pouring himself a cup as well, using the plastic one going with the thermos bottle.
The two men sat their and drank away at the black brew, bullshitting a little about this and that, waiting for the day to begin. When Rob was through with his coffee, he suddenly looked up and asked, “ Chris...what the hell is that?”
“ What?”
“ That overthere above the trees at the edge of the clearing!”
“ Yea...you’re right...what the fuck could that be?”
“ I don’t know..., but I don’t like it!”
“ Looks like a ball of light, like it’s glowing..., some kind of luminous gas!”
“ Hey Chris...I think I know what it could be.”
“ What?”
“ A plasma ball...I saw something on TV about such things.., they think they’re responsible for most of the UFO sightings.”
“ Where do they come from?”
“ They say these things form in the earth’s interior, earth tremors deep down below the crust causes ‘em..., then they’re released..., they say they’re a soup of subatomic particles...electrons, and whatever else.”
“ What should we do?”
“ Let me see something.”
Turning around and reaching for the back seat, Rob took up his gun and then rolled down the passenger side window. Raising himself, he placed his upper frame and gun outside the window and aimed the rifle at the mysterious cloud, pulling back at the trigger. Right when the bullet entered the ball of light, the funny thing changed colors, going from red to blue.
“ You think that was a good idea?”, asked Chris, concern in his voice.
“ Let’s see what happens...I’m curious.”
Seconds later, the thing started to discharge, sparks flying in every direction.
“ What the hell..., Rob, I don’t think you should’ve done that...it seems like its getting dangerous!”
“ It’ll disappear shortly...the thing’s losing all its light!”
“ Ok..., if you say so!”
It didn’t take another five seconds and the SUV was hit by one of the sparks.
“ Hey..., what’s going on here...!”, yelled Chris, seeing the car’s interior beginning to glow!
“ I don’t know..., I’m not sure..., but look at the cloud..., just like I said...it’s getting fainter and fainter.”
“ Who cares about the fucken cloud..., why the hell is it so bright in here?”
Fear in his face now, Rob said in response, “ Not sure...but maybe you were right...I probably shouldn’ve shot at it!”
“ Why does everything seem like it’s...!”
“ No..., it can’t be..., we’re...!”
“ We’re shrinking right out of our clothes!”
Slowly, but steadily, both guys got progressively smaller and smaller, shrinking away. As Rob was reduced, he dropped the rifle to the grass outside the vehicle, his head eventually going back inside the tinnier he got.
“ Holy fucken shit..., Rob, this is crazy!”
Finally, after a minute went by, the men were each shrunk down to an insignificant two inches, sitting there naked upon their collapsed attire.
Looking around, Chris said, “ The glowing stopped....and that cloud is gone.”

Chris got himself under control somewhat, made a sigh, and then asked, “ Ok..., so you got any idea...how are we gonna get ourselves outta this?”
Confused, Rob really didn’t know what to say except, “ Well..., guess we’ll have to just wait here till someone finds us.”
“ That could be days..., we’ll starve by then!”
“ Maybe we’ll get lucky...let’s just wait and see.”
Frustrated, Chris simply shut his mouth and said nothing more, not knowing what else to do.”
The minutes went by, eventually turning into hours. With the sun shining now, the two men simply continued to sit there, feeling totally helpless and inept. After another half hour went by, Rob broke the silence, saying, “ I heard something.”
His eyes wide open now, Chris replied, “ Yea..., I heard it too...sounds like a faint rattling sound!”
“ Like soup cans bumping into one another.”
“ Hey...that could be the sound of someone’s backpack as the person walks...!”
“ Right..., it’s getting louder and louder!”

“ I’ll be here two more days...we’ll just wait till the phones are working again.”

Her brain working away, Karen eventually replied, “ Perhaps I won’t stay her for another two days.”
“ What are you talking about?”
An evil expression on her face, the foxy young lady said more to herself than the little guys, “There’s really only one problem.”
“ What?”, asked Chris, “ What are you talking about?”
“ Your car...that’s the thing.”
“ I don’t understand!”
“ To bad I wasn’t thinking this way right when I found you two...I wouldn’ve driven that thing...just leave it there and hike back, taking only both of you and nothing else.”
