This is the first in a series of critical essays on various fictional videos, but written as if a real analysis for perhaps a child-care agency, or teaching material for a medical or psychological or child-developmental department. Discussion on the 'power' of the video. Finally, a 'rating' is given for how disturbing it is. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * VIDEO (silent): 'NIKKI'S PANIC-ATTACK'. A whole suite of `Nikki videos' exist capturing a girl's sexual abuses from the age of about 9 through to 11 or 12 at most. Some have sound, some do not. The history of the girl before this is unknown, but this video would indicate that her experiences did not become very heavy (if they started at all) before this time. She is clearly at her youngest of any of the videos, the raw title of the footage being `Nikki at 9', and her slight physique supports this. Here there is a total absence of breasts, and her body is that of the androgynous `any-child', and she is seen to stand up and can be seen to be very short relative to her adult tormentors. She fills out in the later ones, suggesting she is destined to be quite a `big' girl when maturity kicks in, but before pubescence the effect merely maximizes her prettiness. This includes a lovely, even and round face with a next-door quality. She is a brunette, moppish and shoulder-length in `style', though it is really an absence of style - another feature typical of the under-10s. She is neither excessively pale nor tanned, suggesting a girl from a very ordinary middle-class background, healthy aside from her victimization. This makes her more appealing to many paedophiles. At the outset of the vid it appears she has just been escorted into a large bedroom by a man, who is in a state of half-undress (his shirt is on, but nothing below it, it appears). Nikki herself is naked apart from flimsy white panties. He is not touching her at this moment, but may have been leading her by the hand just prior, and appears now to be expecting (or hoping) she will simply go along with proceedings. The camera tracks the action, indicating at least one other person in the room, whom we never see. Nikki glances to the camera several times, and just as we think she is about to sit on the bed along with the man, she pulls away with a face of utmost anxiety and protest. She attempts to scamper to the door, but is easily caught by the man, who tugs her back with minimal strength. She submits to the pull, appearing to know it would be hopeless to battle it. Her face shows even more dismay, on the brink of sobbing if not actually sobbing. Possibly strong words have been uttered by the man, but his face cannot be seen yet. The video is obviously edited at this point, cutting instantly to a new scene. The location is the same - the bedroom - but Nikki and the man are now sitting side by side on the edge of it. It looks certain it is the same day, and probably only a few minutes ahead, possibly more. There is a strong sense of continuity of mood and light (it is hard to tell if it is natural daylight or lighting). One difference is that Nikki no longer has on her panties. Who removed them? The man - `sturdily' built, with chest hairs contrasting strongly with the small and smooth form next to him - is now completely naked. He is perhaps semi-erect, or may simply have quite a fat penis. Nikki's child-vulva can just about be seen, but only as a small slit in the shadows at most, as she sits with her legs close together but not unnaturally tight. The man, who we now feel must surely be her father or step-father - and certainly the `lead' abuser - is comforting the child and talking in earnest fashion to her. There appears to be no threat or nastiness, but there is a silent tone of relentlessness. His arm is around her, his hand frequently smoothing her back, serving to calm her yet remind her of the impossibility of escape. She gazes ahead listening passively, and possibly does the odd small nod. The video ends after about a minute of this. The implications of this video are obvious and part of its power, despite no real sexual abuse taking place. She has evidently `had' some on previous occasions, or else why would she be fretful here? It is likely they were reasonably hard-core, comprising experiences she obviously did not like. We can only guess what they were. We are left wondering what stage her sexual abuses have reached already. The second huge implication, of course, is that a session is about to follow. She must know roughly what it entails, if not exactly, and they are things which would stress out a 9-year-old girl. Her other videos shed light on this one: since she appears quite stable - happy, even - in some of the later ones, we can assume she was not at this stage `used to' her experiences. So, she is a relative novice, yet has had some serious things done to her. Implication 3 is that the session IS, undoubtedly going to happen, and she will not be `let off the hook'. We can take comfort from the fact she seems `gently' treated, her molestations being persuasive and perhaps coercive but not forceful or hateful. But they are GOING to happen, whether she likes it or not, and will continue for the foreseeable future - at least 2 years, as we know from other vids. We have seen, therefore, no `action' here. What we HAVE seen is the psychological effect of early stages of significant sexual abuse of a child by at least one adult male. We are getting a live window onto the very moments where a childhood is obliterated, and probably a common scene of a child in the clutches of paedophilia. We have witnessed the controllability of a child, and this arouses pity or excitement or both. We are invited to decide whether or not to care that she is sexually abused, or to enjoy the fact and support the abuser's work. The insinuation is that we should be 'pleased about her age', in view of the video's raw title. A question mark lingers over how much damage is done, since she appears more content in other videos.
