I like self bondage to end with a real torment. Timers of various kinds are fine, but when the ice finally melts or whatever, it's good to have the extra torment of a chore which must be undertaken completely before that final moment of release. This particular one uses a rope tied in several knots, which must all be undone to make a key available. I originally saw the idea on Gromet's Self Bondage Page, but I couldn't figure out from the description exactly how it was meant to work, so I came up with this.
The basic idea is a long rope, looped through a ring in the ceiling, or around a beam or something. At a level which will be reachable in whatever bondage your hands will be in, the two ends of the loop are tied in a knot - a reef knot is ideal - and then the two ends are tied again and again until there are enough knots to give the desired delay. The key which will release the bondage is tied to the top of the loop, at ceiling level. Figure 1, below, shows this basic idea.
To be effective, this needs a bit more work, because in this simple form the loop can be pulled around until the key can be reached. This doesn't matter if the releasing lock is somewhere that can't be reached. For example, if your ankles are held together with a padlock that also holds them to a chain, you can't get the key down to the lock to undo it until all the knots are undone, and you can't lift the padlock to the level of the key either. But if the key could be brought to the lock, then something a bit more complicated is required, so the loop cannot be pulled around. One way is shown in Figure 2. One of the ends is extended and passed through a ring (or whatever) at ground level, then run up again to a high, unreachable, level, where it is tied in place. Hence the key can only be reached when all of the knots are undone and the shorter end of the rope can be pulled completely free of the ceiling ring.
To use this technique, you'll need a piece of rope a few feet longer than three times the distance from floor to ceiling. You'll need a couple of rings in the ceiling, large enough for the rope and the key to pass through easily, or else a beam or similar. You'll also need something at ground level that can be used to secure the rope. A ring is ideal, but the leg of a heavy piece of furniture would be fine. Fasten the release key firmly to the rope, about a third of the way along. Thin cord is fine for this, wrapped a dozen or so times tightly around the rope, tied in place, then tied to the key. The knots should be small enough and tight enough that they cannot be undone once you are in bondage. Some glue on the cord and knots will make sure of this.
Pass the rope through one ceiling ring, with the key at ceiling height. One end should reach down about to floor level, while the other is long enough to go down to the floor then back up to the ceiling, with some slack to allow for the knots. Tie the first knot at a height where you will be able to reach it once in bondage. Then take the two ends and make a short loop, with another knot. You can make as many knots as you want. When there are enough, pass the long end through the ring (or whatever) on the floor, then pass it up to the ceiling again and fix it to the second ring. And that's it. The rope is ready to use, ready to delay your release. Obviously it should be put somewhere you can't reach it until the primary release has happened, either some distance away or just such that you can't reach it. For example, maybe the first lock holds your hands at neck level, and the knots are at waist level and below.

Another way to stop the rope being pulled through prematurely is shown in Figure 3. You'll need two additional rings no more than a foot or so above the height of the highest knot. These rings must be just the right size, large enough to allow the rope to pass through easily - including the key, this is very important - but small enough to stop the knot and a triple thickness of rope. Thus the rope cannot be pulled through either ring until all the knots are undone. A similar idea is shown in Figure 4. This uses just a single ring, large enough for a double thickness of rope but not for a knot. You can always make this easier by tying an extra-large knot at the highest position.
How easy it will be to undo the knots depends of course on what you are wearing on your hands. Thin latex gloves will not be much of a problem, thicker industrial gloves will make it harder. If one hand is unusable - maybe in a ball glove - this will make it very hard. There are various other ways to make it harder and slower. You could wrap one, several or all of the knots in fine string or heavy cotton, tied in knots which it will be impossible to undo in gloves. The only way to get free is to nibble through the string - obviously this will only work if your chosen bondage does not include a gag. You could improve on this by soaking the string and knots in something extremely unpleasant, like hot oil, or bitter aloes, or something putrid like rotten fish, or shit if your tastes incline that way. Whatever you do, it is absolutely vital to have a trial run first to make sure it is at least possible to undo the knot you will use, in the rope you will use, while your hands are secured. Happy self bondage, and play safe!
