After four hours of questioning, the police let Tommy go home.
Tommy had a squeaky clean record up until that moment, so the
cops released him to his parents. A court date was to be issued later
for those who wished to press charges of aggravated assault, though
the Johnson's could easily counter with a self-defense plea thanks to
the dozen or so video cameras which caught not only the mayhem
but the provocation that had come before. All this came as little relief
to Mary and Steve, who were certain the backlash from the
community would end up lasting for years to come.

The Johnson's entered their home just as the sun was setting in the
west, sinking behind the rolling hills of Highland Heights. Tired and
drained from the experience they walked in silence, but Tommy still
smiled.

"Bethany, why don't you go up to your room for a bit, your Father and
I need to speak with Tommy in private, okay?"

"Okay Mommy, don't yell at him too much."

Mary smiled down at Bethany, touched by her concern for her big
brother. "I promise, now get going."

Mary watched as Bethany bounded upstairs to her room before
joining Steve and Tommy in the living room. Tommy was still smiling
as if this was all just a big joke.

"Thomas Michael Johnson, wipe that smirk off your face this instant!"
Mary couldn't believe his arrogance. "Just what the hell did you think
you were doing today, huh? You could have killed someone! Do you
realize that?"

Tommy sat on the couch, staring blankly at his flustered Mother, still
grinning from ear to ear.

"THOMAS!" Steve had enough of this. "Stop smiling this instant!"

Tommy's eyes glazed over, tears began to come, the color of his skin
blanched white, and the smile melted away. He began sobbing
uncontrollably, snot dripping from his nose.

"What have you got to say for yourself?" Though her heart was
breaking for Tommy, she still sounded firm.

"Mom... I... I don't know what happened... I... don't know why I..."
Tommy could barely speak, he was trembling, terrified by what he
had done. "I don't... know why... I hurt them."

Steve tried to keep his voice calm and even. "You really could have
hurt someone badly today, and you don't know why?"

"No Dad... I don't... I... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to... hurt..." His voice
sounded so weak. "I... I remember getting angry, and then, I don't
know."

"Tommy, you could go to juvie for this, you know that?" asked Steve.

Mary threw Steve a look to kill. She thought he had crossed a line in
scaring Tommy.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to..." Tommy broke down into an incoherent
mess.

Mary ran to him, embracing her devastated little boy. "Dammit Steve,
you didn't have to go that far!"

"Me?" Steve sounded incredulous. "Go too far? Didn't you see what
he did to those kids! He's lucky he's not behind bars for what he's
done!"

"STOP IT! STOP YELLING AT HIM! IT WASN'T TOMMY'S FAULT!"

Bethany's screaming stopped the adults instantly. Mother, Father
and Son turned to the doorway to find little Bethany. Her face was
red with the strain of yelling and tears rolled down her freckled
cheeks.

"It wasn't his fault... it was mine!" The little girl crumbled into a ball on
the floor, sobbing. "It's all my fault."

Steve ran to the sobbing child, lifting her from the floor and holding
her close to him. Her body trembled against his.

"No baby... shhh... its okay... shhh... it's not your fault," he tried to
calm her.

When Bethany screamed out, Steve had a strange memory flash
behind his eyes. A bed floating in nowhere, a little girl crying, 'No
Daddy, don't come in', and a wave of absolute dread. A chill ran
down his spine. Why did he feel like this had happened before?

"Shhh, baby girl, everything will be okay. Shhh... It's not your fault."

"No, you don't understand! It is! He is making things happen
because of me!" Bethany tore herself from Steve's embrace, a
determined look on her tiny face. "He is coming and there is nothing
we can do to stop Him!"

The Johnson's sat in stunned silence after Bethany's outburst. Time
seemed to stop and a chill filled the air. Her words triggered
something within them, a door of perception opened in their minds.
From it flowed forth memories of the night before. Events once
believed to be figments of an unsettled imagination, were now
illuminated as reality. The dreamers had awakened.

Tommy spoke first, his voice crackling with emotion and a sudden
onset of puberty.

"That really happened?"

Bethany nodded her head, confirming their worst fears.

"Bethany", Mary spoke in a whisper. "Why? Why is this happening?"

Bethany took a deep breath. "I'll tell you... I'll tell you everything...
Just, just stop yelling at each other.

"It... it all started when I was four." Bethany sat on the couch between
her older brother and mother. She now sounded older, wiser than the
nine years of life she had experienced, but scared. "Before then my
old Mommy and Daddy were really nice.

"We were just like any other family. I went to pre-school and had lots
of friends. My Daddy went to his work everyday, and Mommy took
care of me. I would watch cartoons and play outside and Mommy
and Daddy would kiss and hug me, and tell me how much they loved
me." Beth's green eyes sparkled with the memory.

"Daddy had been spending more and more time at his work, and
Mommy started getting really upset. After a while she would yell at
him when he came home late. They used to wake me up with the
fighting. She kept asking him why he wasn't coming home and he
wouldn't say. She asked if he was seeing someone else, he said no.
She asked if he still loved her and he said yes, but she didn't believe
him. Sometimes they got really loud and broke stuff. I would cry until
I fell asleep.

"It got really bad after that. Daddy stayed away for long times, and
Mommy was crying all the time. Then one day Daddy came home.
He was all messy, like he hadn't changed his clothes for a long time
and hadn't taken a bath either. Mommy told him she was leaving,
and taking me with her. Daddy started crying, he begged her not to
go, but she was real mad at him. She picked me up and ran to our
car. Daddy chased us, begging her to stop, but she wouldn't. Then
he told her that he would show her what he had been doing, he would
tell her everything, if she would stay and listen. Mommy did stay, and
they talked for a long time. I wish she hadn't, I wish she had taken
me and drove far away, so far that Daddy could never find us again...
but she didn't." Bethany wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Daddy didn't go to his work anymore; he stayed home with Mommy
and me. They stayed in the basement a lot, keeping the door locked
and leaving me alone in the house for hours and hours. Most times I
had to make my own food. I didn't even get to go to school anymore.

"The house got real dirty and smelly, and the TV stopped working.
One night the lights went out and didn't come back on. Mommy and
Daddy just lit some candles; they looked like skeletons in the fire
light. I got real scared of them after that.

"Then they forgot my fifth birthday. I kept waiting for them to surprise
me with a gift, but they didn't. I was so sad and lonely. I wanted to
run away but Daddy had locked all the doors and windows. I cried
and cried but they never asked me why, they stayed in the basement.

"One time I got brave. Mommy and Daddy were sleeping on the
floor, and I snuck down into the basement using the key. It was really
dark and cold down there, but there were candles everywhere so I lit
some. There was a bunch of old books and papers all over the place.
I couldn't read though, so I don't know what they said. They had also
painted things all over the walls and the floor; weird squiggles and
circles and lines. In the middle of the floor they had drawn a star in a
circle. It smelled awful bad, like armpits and pee. I got real scared
for some reason and I ran out and locked the door. I tried to stay
away from them as much as they avoided me after that.

"Time went by, and things stayed the same. The phone rang and
rang and then one day stopped. No one ever came to visit, not even
the mailman. My seventh birthday was coming but I didn't care, no
one else did.

"The day of my birthday I woke up in my room to the sound of a
vacuum cleaner. I went downstairs and my Mom and Dad were
cleaning the house! The windows were open, the trash was all gone,
and they were dressed in clean clothes! 'Good morning birthday girl,'
they said when they saw me. I was so happy. They remembered!

"Daddy finished the cleaning while Mommy made me the bestest
breakfast I had had in forever. Later they took me out to buy new
clothes and toys for my birthday. They said that I was going to have
a party later that night so I had to look pretty. I was so happy that I
cried, my family was back again!

"They bought me a real pretty white dress. It was all frilly and lacy
like a princess dress. I loved it, and Mommy and Daddy said I looked
beautiful.

"Later, when it got dark outside, they lit the house with candles,
hundreds of candles. It was so nice now that the house was clean, it
didn't seem scary at all.

"Some strange people began to show up, and they were all dressed
up fancy too. They were all smiling and wishing me a happy birthday,
and telling me how pretty I was. Some of them even had gifts for me!
Mommy and Daddy were smiling and laughing; they kissed and
talked to the people like they were old friends. I couldn't figure out
how they knew them since they never really left the house.

"The party was real fun. There was music and cake and punch, and I
got to stay up real late. Mommy handed me a glass of wine and told
me to drink it. She said it was a magic glass and that if I drank it all
up, my birthday wish would come true. It tasted funny and made my
lips tingly, but I drank it all anyway. I didn't want to disappoint
Mommy.

"I got real dizzy after that. The room was spinning in circles and I felt
really hot. I told my parents but they just smiled and told me to enjoy
it. For some reason I thought everything was real funny. I started
giggling and couldn't stop. My arms and legs felt heavy and I had to
lay down on the floor, still laughing.

"It was all like a dream after that. My Daddy picked me up in his
arms and carried me down into the basement with everyone following
us. He stood me up in the star circle and Mommy and Daddy knelt
on either side, holding me steady. The people were still smiling as
they surrounded us, and I smiled back.

"Mom and Dad began to pull my dress off, lifting it over my head.
The cold basement air made me feel even more tingly. Once they
had my pretty dress, they tugged my panties down past my ankles,
lifting first one foot then the other to remove them. I stood there
naked in front of all those smiling strangers. I was scared and
embarrassed, but I couldn't do anything, my body was numb.

"Mom and Dad laid me down on the floor before they stood up and
started to strip themselves. I hadn't seen them naked before, and
they had strange markings all over their bodies, just like the ones on
the walls. After all their clothes were gone they knelt next to me
again, there hands touching me all over, gently caressing every part
of me from my head to my feet. Daddy's thingy started to grow, it got
bigger and bigger. I couldn't look away from it; I had never seen one
before.

"'That's because of you, sweetie, your Daddy thinks you're very
pretty,' my Mom whispered to me. The people around us began to
chant, saying things I didn't understand. Their voices made me dizzy.

"My Mom moved on top of me, straddling my tiny body. She gazed at
me with her green eyes, just like mine. She told me she loved me
and kissed my cheek. She told me that I was special, and that one
day I would rule the world with my new husband. I was confused but
happy that she felt that way about me.

"My Daddy moved behind my Mom, straddling me as well. He moved
forward pushing against my Mom. She smiled and began to breath
funny. She told me that he was inside of her. I didn't understand but
I smiled back. Soon he began banging against her, harder and
harder. She groaned and told me how good he felt inside of her.
She said that soon my husband would be with me, and I would know
how good it was. I started to get scared again, she looked like Daddy
was hurting her.

"The sound of the chanting got louder the faster Dad got. The
candles began to flicker, some of them went out. It suddenly got a lot
darker. The concrete floor beneath me felt softer, like it was melting.
My Mother cried out, 'He's coming, baby! Can you feel it? He's
coming to make you his bride!

"I could feel him. Something or someone was beneath me, getting
closer and closer. I started to cry. I didn't want to be married to
whatever was coming up through the ground. I begged them to let
me up but they wouldn't. My Mom was growling, and so was Dad.
They were slamming their bodies against each other, snarling and
moaning, their faces twisted and angry.

"Something began to tickle my feet; I could feel it begin to slide
around my leg. Another one grabbed my other leg and held it tight.
Soon more of the things began sliding over my body. They felt like
snakes, only they burned where they touched. They wrapped around
my arms and slithered over my tummy.

"I cried out for my parents to help me, but they weren't listening. The
things pulled my legs wide apart, so wide I thought they were going to
tear me in half. My arms burned as they pulled me, holding me still.
More and more of the snake things touched me, rubbing and tickling
everywhere. One started to press against my cunny and I screamed
out to make it stop, but no one helped me.

"It pushed harder and harder, it hurt so bad, I kept screaming and
yelling. The things were touching me everywhere and they began to
nibble on my skin. My nipples, my ears, my neck, my toes, little tiny
mouths nibbled away. Still that big one pushed against my cunny,
forcing its way in. With a great big push, it broke into me. I've never
screamed so loud in my life.

"It began to move inside me, I could feel every ripple and pulse. It
grew bigger, stretching my poor little hole so bad. I couldn't cry
anymore, the pain stole my tears. My mouth hung open but I couldn't
scream, I don't even remember if I was breathing.

"Leaving my mouth open was a mistake, one of the things took
advantage and was soon sliding its way down my throat. I gagged
and wretched, but it kept moving in. I tried to bite it but my teeth
didn't stop it. Soon it too was pulsing and throbbing. I thought that
the two things inside me were trying to meet in my tummy. I felt so
sick, it tasted so horrible.

"They started sliding in an' out of my body, one in, the other out, then
back again. I was choking and crying, but my Mommy just looked
down and smiled. I hated her. I hated both of my parents, and all the
people who had seemed so nice earlier. Most of all I hated the
monster that was hurting me. The monster that Mommy said was my
husband.

"The tentacles inside me slowed down but didn't stop. I felt another
one of the things moving between my bottom cheeks. It slid up and
down touching my other hole. Something slippery and hot was
squirting onto it and rubbing all over. It began to push against my
little button. I thought I was going to die. How could something fit in
there? It would never fit! It was going to rip me apart, I'd bleed to
death! Then it was inside of me, going deeper and deeper, joining its
friends.

"My eyes rolled into the back of my head, my body shook
uncontrollably. I'm pretty sure I threw up because of the pain, but the
thing in my throat kept it in my tummy. I thought I was dying. Nothing
could hurt that badly and not kill you. I was wrong.

"All three snakes moved in me, faster and faster. I was lifted off the
floor by them, held in midair by my holes. I was lost in pain. Still they
grew and throbbed, stretched and pulsed. I heard my parents cry
out, but couldn't see them. Everything went dizzy and black. I had
passed out."

Bethany paused to catch her breath. She opened her eyes to look at
her new family. They remained seated around her in the living room,
but their faces had turned white, and their cheeks dripped with tears.
The shocking tale of Bethany's demonic rape left them in a wasteland
of incoherent thought. If she had told them this same story a day
before they never would have believed a word of it, but after the
experience they shared last night, nothing seemed impossible.

Bethany gave them a weak smile to show them she was all right, and
then she continued.

"When I woke up the monster was gone. I hurt so bad I couldn't
move. I was still lying on the floor of the basement, sticky and naked.
I looked around in the darkness but couldn't see anyone or anything
since it was so dark.

"There was a loud crash upstairs and I could hear people moving
around so I cried out as best I could for help. The basement door
broke open and all this light came in. It was so bright that it hurt my
eyes, but I could see a bunch of policemen come running down the
steps to me. They picked me up and held me tightly, telling me not to
look. But I did. Their flashlights showed me what they didn't want me
to see.

"All of them were dead. My Mommy, my Daddy, and all of the
strangers, they were all dead. Blood was everywhere, even dripping
from the ceiling. They had been torn into pieces, but I had been left
alive. I was happy they were all dead... they let that thing hurt me...
and I was glad it hurt them too.

"After that I was taken to a bunch of different doctors. They
examined all of my private places and told me that I would be okay,
that no one would ever hurt me like that ever again. Many of them
just wanted to talk to me like Dr. Lowery does. None of them
believed me about the monster, though.

"I was taken to an orphanage when the police couldn't find any other
relatives to take me in. I was upset at first, not having a family of my
own, but I made a lot of friends there. Many of them had been hurt
like I had, but none by a monster.

"After a few weeks in the orphanage some people wanted to meet
me. They said they were Martin and Samantha Schafer and that they
wanted to take me home to be their new daughter. I was scared but
excited that someone wanted to take me home to live with them.

"That's when He started to speak to me..."
