   In The Life of Mike Stone Part 140 By Mike Stone 2015
   After breakfast at the hotel Lori and the rest of the Jurors boarded the
large passenger van en route to the Garland County Courthouse.The driver
had his smartphone on a music service,it was the only time the jurors heard
music going to and from the courthouse.The van stopped at the longest red
light in town and the music was most welcome.Lori looked out the window
seeing people going about their daily lives despite the cold morning."this
will be over soon."Lori said to herself.As the van pulled into the back of
the courthouse one male juror said"Here we go again folks,Groundhog
Day."For the twelve jurors it felt like the same day was repeating itself
over and over.
   District Attorney Janice Keller sat in a meeting room at the courthouse
with her team of prosecutors.The Billy Conklin murder trial had become a
circus as witness's failed to appear in court and the young public defender
Eldon Roper looked more like a mixed martial arts fighter losing in the
first thirty seconds of every round."Pardon my French guys but this is the
most fucked up case I've ever seen,guy kills his girlfriend's husband in
cold blood.Open and shut case 'nuff said guys."A young man walked into the
meeting room and handed Janice Keller a piece of paper."What's this horse
shit?"Janice said as she read the piece of paper."Two more witness's just
came forward,things are really fucked up now."With that said Janice Keller
and her team left the meeting room for Judge Meeker's courtroom.

   My wife Kim and I have been following the Billy Conklin murder trial as
well as many of our friends.For two days Janice Keller destroyed the two
"Witness's"for the defense.The first witness could not keep his story
straight and and the second witness was dismissed as it turned out she was
wanted in another county on drug charges.Judge Meeker called a recess until
Monday morning.While meeting in Judge Meeker's chambers Eldon Roper said he
knew nothing about the two witness's."Things are getting weird,Judge Meeker
and District Attorney Keller I quit."Eldon said as he looked down at the
carpet.Janice Keller put her arm around the young public defender.Eldon
Roper looked up and said"I'm going to tell that piece of shit he's on his
own."This was the beginning of of a long three day weekend for this case.
   By Friday afternoon Billy Conklin was told that no one from the public
defender's office would take his case and Billy Conklin would most likely
be put on the witness stand on Monday.Without a lawyer to defend him the
murder suspect would have to"Move heaven and earth"to prove himself
innocent.

   When Saturday rolled around I was happy.As cold as it was something
about winter weekends makes them special.Maybe it's the short days or
hunkering down when it's cold as hell.Where we live one can't go to the
beach or run around naked outdoors at least for the next few months.My wife
Kim and I have been taking care of Lori's children while she has jury duty.
