As many of you have probably noted, I’m now reposting my “Great Death” series (which I’d previous pulled out of fear of copyright theft). However, with the release of the third sequel to the series, I wanted to remind people of the story, with the hope of finding refreshing the memories of those who read it years ago as well as finding new readers.
The first two books, “Love and Hope During the Great Death” and “Grappling with Survival” take an unusual approach on the typical post-apocalyptic genre, focusing on how the individuals who find themselves caught up in an apocalyptic event cope with the death and dying surrounding them. This is opposed to the many stories where people wake up in a post-apocalyptic world where all the bodies have magically disappeared, there’s no sickness or disease, and everyone fights with roving biker gangs for the spoils of left over motor homes.
“Love and Family” details a random group of strangers thrown together during a world-wide crisis, with a heavy emphasis on the scientific underpinnings of an apocalyptic event. In it, one man and his daughter attempt to motivate those around them to continue fighting in the face of insurmountable odds. “Grappling” follows this, by addressing how watching your friends and family die affects the survivors, as one man tries to convince the world to band together, when the rest of the world wants nothing more than to left alone in thier grief. He sees a second wave of death approaching, and wants to help everyone to work together to save as many people as possible.
The third book, “Seeding Hope Among the Ashes”, just published, continues the series as those the man has helped set out to carry his treatment for the plagues facing the world to the surrounding communites, and how they convince strangers to make them sick with a deadly plague in order to save them, without the assistance of the man behind the cure.
For those of you who have read the first two stories of the series, let me warn you that nothing has changed in them (including the sex scenes which disconcerted several people). They’re just presented here so you can refresh your memories. The new story, however, takes the series in a completely new direction, as the story jumps between different groups helping others survive instead of following a central group struggling to survive. What’s more, the new story drops the sexual component entirely (mainly due to logistics, more than anything else, as the story moves too quickly for relationships to develop).
I hope you enjoy the series, if you’ve never encountered it before, and I hope you enjoy the new book, if you’ve followed the other books. “Seeding Hope” was written so that it stands on it’s own (without needing the previous books, since it’s marketed at a wider demographic), but the themes reinforce themselves in each book, and so it reads better if you read them in sequence.
