My Story 31
By Corbin
How life tests the endurance, patience, and sometimes faith of one young woman.

*********

I can no longer classify Hip-Hop/Rap as music. It's just a bunch of background
noise, where most of the people lift/sample music from older hits and try to
make it into a new hit single.

Let me very clear about this A REMAKE OF A SONG IS NEVER BETTER THEN THE
ORIGINAL!

Also, whenever a singer/song writer does a remake or a greatest hits CD, I
pretty much assume their career is over and they are now desperate for sales to
hopefully re-energize their career.

While I am the mood to vent, let me go on to say that I voted for John Kerry.
Want to know why? Well I'll tell you anyway, because I believe in term-limits.
Politicians will never self impose term limits, life is way too good for them
and they've managed to fool many of the simple minds of this country into
getting them re-elected back into office...over and over and over and over...
I believe every politician gets one shot only! Get in...get it done...and get
out. And when your term in office is over, you loose all Government benefits,
thus they must now go back into society...back into the private sector they go,
to experience the ups and downs of Healthcare/Benefits and so on, just like the
rest of us. Just my own agenda I'm pushing for.

So where were we? Oh I remember :)

I was surprised by Tasha's firm grasp and it momentarily caught me off guard,
but coming off a strong workout earlier that evening and the mix of good wine
made me 'game'. I admit it was fun watching this girl almost gasp out loud
when I flexed my forearm muscles, poor thing...she really was in over her head
and I couldn't help but give a knowing grin before letting go.

So I thought she got the point, but this girl just seemed to get more
infuriated, well isn't that just dandy? I really didn't have time for this crap
and lowered my head, tipping the wine glass to my lips as I suddenly regretted
my actions. I new I shouldn't have shown off like that and glanced up hoping
that no bad 'vibes' were still there, but boy was I wrong, Tasha had that look
on her face like she wanted to smack me or something.

"Well, it was nice to meet you." I suddenly blurted out and kind of shifted a
little towards the kitchen door like I wanted to make a quick exit.

"Sharon's told me allot about you." Tasha took a step back and leaned against
the opposing counter, so we now stood about five feet directly across from one
another.

"Oh yeah?" I perked up slightly, but I really couldn't give a shit, this chick
was annoying me. I watched Tasha finish off her own drink and she placed it on
the counter behind her. She then proceeded to shift her weight to one side, her
short miniskirt rode up her left thigh revealing her a nice pair of long, well-
toned legs, accented more so by her dark skin. So what was this girl's motive? I
figured she was just looking to try and one-up me oh puhhhlease.

"Sharon also tells me you're into sports?"

"Yeah, some." I sighed as my posture relaxed and I smiled with a casual air, but
it seemed like a good time to end the conversation as I was terrible with chit-
chat and wanted to mingle a bit.

"Well, it was nice meeting you Tasha, We'll talk later okay?" Quickly I pushed
off from the counter and gave another quick smile before exiting the kitchen.
Was that rude of me? Maybe, this girl wanted to banter with me and that crap
bores the hell out of me. I managed to dodge her until I could make my way back
into the kitchen to raid the refrigerator and contemplated having another drink,
my mind was automatically counting the calories as everything I ate was finely
tuned to my workout regimen.

"Hey Corbin." the voice called out startling me a little and I spun around, a
bottle in my right hand, an empty glass in the left.

"Oh, hi David" I sighed and set both on the counter and I think I totally
surprised David by leaning over to hug him, it was a move inspired by three
glasses of wine, "How have you been?" I asked.

"Good, very good." David smiled, but he seemed to be fighting to remain steady
and not slur his words. I have to admit, David was a fairly attractive, clean
cut guy that came form a fairly prominent family, but was kind of shy around
girls (I like that, he's also the same guy that made it known he would like me
to kick his butt.). "Look, I'm sorry Corbin, if I come across a little...well,
I've had a bit to drink tonight." He laughed and blushed. I just smiled and
began pouring the wine into my own glass.

"Well David, don't you worry, everyone is on the tipsy side right now." Trying
to ease his mind.

"Would you like to go out sometime?" The question came suddenly and I just
froze, setting the bottle down on the counter. Poor guy, he appeared to be
sweating a little bit. "It could be casual, you know, but hey I'm sorry for
putting you on the spot. I warned you I, and I'm rambling now." David gasped in
horror.

"It's okay, really, but David, you know I'm dating Nikki."

"Oh right," David awkwardly looked away and shuffled his feet some, "that's
right you are."

I raised an eyebrow with a disappointed look at his sudden lapse in memory where
Nikki and I are concerned, he caught sight of that I think and tightened his
lips. "I recall Sharon saying something, just tonight, about you and Nikki are
on a break or something?"

I felt a pain shoot thru me, and my temper rise, towards Sharon that is. "Nikki
and I are still together." I said firmly.

"Oh okay." He stuttered for a second.

"It's okay." I leaned forward and smiled a little thus causing him to laugh a
little at his own awkwardness, I didn't want David to think I was irritated with
him.

"Okay...okay..." he blushed and shrugged.

By about 1:00am most everyone had departed, thank god!

"Did you have a good time?" Sharon asked. I don't remember what I mumbled
in response from the kitchen.

"What!? I can't hear you!" Sharon called out.

"Yes!" I reluctantly replied. I could give a shit about who did what or who had
a good time, the kitchen was a freaking mess! "Sharon, get your lazy butt in
here and help me clean all this stuff up!" I snapped.

"No, that's your job, I planned this gig, YOU can clean up." Sharon snapped
back. So in response, I began clanging dishes and glasses as I filled the
dishwasher up.

"And you better not break anything either." Sharon warned, and then it
happened, I purposively slammed a glass into the sink breaking it. Well, it's
just a glass, I tend to do that anyway, break things that piss me off.

"What the hell!" Sharon came storming into the kitchen and up to the sink to
inspect the damage. I stood leaning against the counter propped up by my right
hand, a satisfied scowl covering my face as I crossed my right leg in front of
my left.

"One of my good, god-damn wine glasses you clumsy oaf!" Sharon eyes just
went bug eyed.

"It was an accident." I sneered, but fought to hide a smile.

Sharon turned and pointed her finger almost right into my chest and then at the
sink, "My ass it was, you did that on purpose!"

"No, it slipped." I shrugged, but Sharon stepped forward and got right in my
face, "Bullshit, you did that on purpose!"

I turned around and just sort of leaned forward and braced my arms against the
counter top, Sharon was still standing and waiting, watching as I tried to cool
my temper but the more I thought about her telling David that Nik and I were
broken up, the angrier I got.

"What's wrong?" Sharon finally sighed, her head leaning to the left, trying to
get a better look at my face. "What's going on?"

Well, she asked for it, I whipped my head to the left and Sharon sort of jump
because she could tell I was genuinely pissed, "Did you tell David, that Nikki
and I were broken up?"

Sharon's lips, coated in a perfect application of lipstick, parted, making a
silent 'What?'

I was ready to explode, and Sharon knew to tread lightly where Nikki and I were
concerned, her meddling sometimes goes too far. Sharon and I have such a love-
hate relationship, it's so hard to describe! Sometimes I want to beat the crap
out of her, and then other times I love her to pieces! Sharon had this look of
'Please don't hurt me.' On her face, which breaks my heart, she always says that
when I get truly angry a fire lights up in my eyes and my expression can get
very terrifying. I relaxed a little bit and spoke in a softer tone, "Don't ever
do that again Sharon, Nikki and I are still together." I lowered my head and
felt a wave of sadness wash over me, 'was I kidding myself? Are we truly still
together?' and a tear ran down my left cheek as I stood looking down at the
ground.

Sharon's hand came up and wiped my tears away, she pulled me into a tight hug
and whispered her apologies, promising to never do anything like that again,
'HA!!! Yeah right! Sharon never meddle again? Fat chance!'

We hugged a little bit and I apologized for breaking her wine glass.

Sharon took the glass from the sink and gently placing it into the trash bag,
"It's okay, really." Picking up the nearby trash bag, she began to also clean
up. "Here, let me help you." She said.

Sharon was quiet the rest of the evening as we got ready for bed, she seemed at
a loss of words, I knew deep down inside, Sharon didn't understand my attraction
to Nikki, as in the attraction between two women. But she was slowly
turning the corner, becoming more understanding.

As we said our goodnights Sharon kissed me on the neck, "Whatever happens, I
just want you to be happy."

"Thanks Sharon." I smiled.
