Chastity’s Summer Vacation

Hi Sam and kisses to Nathalie,

— Well. Well well well.

— You continually surprise me, Sam.

— A sweetheart.

— Have you read A Room with a View? Travel is so, so, well you know.

— A sweetheart!

— You are beautiful Sam.

— Auburn hair. And educated. She can speak in tongues. I envy you.

It’s been so so here. Jim went down with some of his friends to Mississippi to work on voting. I hope he’s OK. He scribbles a note now and again, but the dear boy is not a good correspondent. Bill is working at the hardware store and he and I have been screwing each other with Jenny’s blessings while she is back home. He’s shown me some new things. I miss Mark, too. He’s written and is having a good time at home. Nothing about a girlfriend. I hope Twinky isn’t lonely.

Things got so tame here I decided I needed a lark. Nothing spectacular. Just a wee break.

My parents said I could visit my grandmother in Cleveland. I went by bus and the trip was fun. I went as Chas, short for Charles, Titty, and had a remarkable conversation with the guy next to me. (I wondered what my parents would say when they found out I’ve cut my hair — I got back and I don’t think they noticed). It was something like one of those old movies on TV. You know, the ones where the heroine is disguised as a young man.

Anyway, Peter and I had a good talk about women and what they want, i.e. sex. He was amazed at the stories I told him of one girl I knew. He said he’d heard stories something like that about other women, but I knew this girl, hunh? Yep, I told him, inside and out, intimately. Wow, he said. And she really did that stuff with guys? Beg them to screw her? Yep, I said. And she’s not bad looking either. Wow. And she’d really do those things? I’ve done just about everything with her, I told him. Gosh, he said.

When we got to Cleveland, did he have a surprise in the men’s room at the bus station. Gosh was all he could say. Wow. He gave me his address and number and I said I’ll try to look him up, maybe he had some buddies. Gosh.

It’s not been bad at my grandmother’s. I was able to spend time in the art museum. And I liked to hang out on the lake. But no Nathalie for me, Sam. I’m envious.

Does she have a sister?

Is she promiscuous?

But I suspect she doesn’t, and she probably isn’t. Oh well.

Jim will be back in two weeks and Mark at the end of the month. We’ve been planning by post for a jazz party when school starts. You’re invited as always, Nathalie, too, if she wants.

I wonder what she’d think of me?

I wonder at times what my parents think. It’s hard to tell what’s going on at home. They hardly talk to each other, much less to me. The only time I think they’ve been enthused was over Steve the pimp. It’s sad.

Nathalie is right about Vietnam. I’m getting scared, too.

I’m starting to babble so I’d better go soon.

Say hi to Nathalie for me, bring back a photo. I’d love to see what she looks like.

Have you heard yet from Davy? I think he went west, not east, but I don’t know. Just one day he was no longer here. I miss him. I miss Jim, I miss Mark and Jenny. I miss you terribly.

Love. Chas Titty.

PS. Peter and his buddies were great; just what I needed.
