The Pleasure Bunnies Short Story Anthology
Author’s Note
Some readers may remember The Pleasure Bunnies as a story called Best Girls. I wrote one or two chapters with that name (which was based on a joke Jennifer would have made later, which ended up sounding really out of character for her as the story evolved, about the best girls being the good girls or something equally corny), but then changed the name to The Pleasure Bunnies to sync it with the actual words and deeds of the story.
As my writing style evolved, and my tastes and interests in EMC changed, the story itself evolved a lot. My first published story True Love, was retrofit into the Pleasure Bunnies universe as well. I wrote a few chapters over a few years, and then fairly rapidly finished it off during a semester off from school after finishing my undergraduate degrees in 2006.
There is actually a history of The Pleasure Bunnies before Best Girls. One of the earliest sets of notes I put together for what would eventually become a story was for something like Best Girls. This story involved more of straight up prostitution/slavery, with brainwashed women running groups of brainwashed prostitutes for some sort of larger scheme (that I never really worked out too much...I remember always keeping it fairly vague for some reason).
The women who ran these groups were normally just random women grabbed, brainwashed, and sent out to fulfill their programming. I have a strong memory of three of them: One was named Kate who was a vaguely rockabilly/swing feminist who was kidnapped and brainwashed into a pretty monotone, almost drone like, years before that really became a “thing,” leader for her group. Another was named Sara, who was a sorority girl captured and brainwashed while on a spring break.
The final was a Japanese girl whose name I don’t remember at this point. She did not inspire Kimberly, although the coincidence is amusing to me. She was actually based on a girl I knew in college who went from super studious to outright boy crazy airhead once she joined a sorority. It was not very sexy in real life.
Lisa? Maybe her name was Lisa.
Anyhow, I scribbled down ideas for that story for about a year. I wrote the first draft of what would become Born To Make You Happy right around this time and also began drafting True Love. The prostitution angle eventually evolved into Best Girls which then evolved into The Pleasure Bunnies.
These brief stories take place in the Pleasure Bunnies universe. Many of them are “deleted scenes” from already published stories or bits and pieces that did not fit into a singular story, but a few are also reader requests. When a reader wants to hear more about a character, I am normally happy to try and fulfill their desire.
