			Chapter 5

reflected on how my life had made such incredible changes in such

  "I got the same reports from your school that they did, and you

research and development. Your networking teacher gives you an
outstanding recommendation. This other company will probably put
you in the service department, they don't have R&D, and I think

week."

  "Can you build such an item?"

though, the best way to do this would be a device built into the
server with each line having it's own microchip and one chip
overall controlling the sequencing. Then all the main chip in the
server would be doing is crunching numbers as it was intended to
do, thereby increasing speed and capacity by a factor of 100."
  Tom spoke up then, "What did I tell you Bill? The kid is a
natural for R&D."
  "I should know better than to doubt you Tom.  Mr. Wilson." he
looked at me, "would you consider quitting your present job and
going to school full time while we pay you for it? We'll triple
your present salary while you are in school, and after graduation
you would work for us at a six figure wage plus bonuses for ideas
such as the one you just gave us. Whether or not you say yes,
I'll approve a bonus for this idea as it stands of $50,000. We've

  "I guess my grandchild will be well taken care of now, and I'm

  Of course I agreed. Mr. Johnson said to get back to them within
a fews days to sign contracts and Tom said he would help me out
with it all. I'm not quite sure how I got home, but when I did I

boss and gave notice. He said that if I had that good an
opportunity I didn't need to come back and wished me luck.
  Things went along well for a few months. Diane confirmed that
