Just in case you like this sort of thing, I will mention that my wife owns a pair of black Mary Jane pumps with smooth brown soles, and one day we brought a bag of gerbil food home and left it on the floor while we went out to a movie. When we came back we noticed the bag had apparently been infested with small black bugs. They were crawling everywhere across the kitchen linoleum. My wife just sighed and began walking around tapping her shoe on each of them. They made soft crunching sounds as she pressed her sole to the floor. She uses this trick where she steps on something and twists just slightly, making the bug stick to her shoe. "Better on the bottom of my shoe, than on the floor where you have to see it," she says. Well, she must have stepped on fifty bugs that evening, and nearly every one of them was smeared on the sole of her shoe. Then she just hopped on one foot outside, and rubbed the whole mess off on the porch floor.

On a separate occassion at the beach one day, she was talking to a friend of hers when a crab scuttled across the sand and onto the sidewalk where they stood. My wife's friend was wearing white sandals with a small heel and a very hard, brown, dirty sole. I was lying on a blanket nearby and got to watch the whole thing from the crab's point of view. My wife's friend tipped her foot back on its heel while still talking and brought it down sharply on the crab. There was a crunch and a squirt as her sandal squashed into the shell. She continued talking without so much as second glance down.

"You stepped on a crab, I think," my wife said.

The woman looked down. "Yeah. I do it all the time. They're such ugly things. Besides its not like it matters. They're only crabs, they're not valuable or anything." As she said this, she twisted her dirty brown sole back and forth on the crab and then lifted her shoe. I could see the bottom perfectly, most of the crab stuck and smeared on her sole, still wriggling a little. She set her foot bak down on top of it, releasing another loud crunch which she ignored, and went back to her story, completely forgetting about the creature squashed under her hot leather sandal.
