I would love to hear more about you and your mother's crushing experiences. My wife crushes insects regularly and I love watching it and hearing the loud crunch. And it's equally fun to see other people crush them. Once my wife and I were at her friend's house (a small brunette wearing old sneakers.) We were helping her move in and when she opened a cupboard there was a large dead cockroach on the shelf. At least she thought it was dead. "Disgusting," was all she said, and brushed it out onto the floor. She paid no more attention to it, but as it hit the floor it started crawling. She was just cleaning along, moving her feet, and suddenly she stepped on it. It crunched so loudly we all looked. "Eww, I stepped on it," she said and looked at her sneaker sole. It was stuck there. Not wanting to track it around the house, she took off her shoes and left them in the kitchen, the one with the bug on it fell on its side exposing the squashed mess for me to see the whole evening.
