Teenage girls crushed to death

Lima, Peru (AP) --Two teen-age girls were crushed to death and more than 100 youths were injured when fans rushed the stage after authorities tried to cancel a concert by Venezuelan salsa heartthrobs Servando and Florentino.

The fans Tuesday apparently became enraged when firefighters, who had gone on stage to ask the singers to end the concert because the crowd of 100,000 was out of control, scuffled briefly with the singers.

The two girls who died were 18 and 19. They fell to the ground when more than 100 other teen-agers, mostly girls, pushed through a protective barrier. An injured girl who was near the deceased recounted how scores of girls stepped onto the two who had fallen when the crowd was pushed forward. "I couldn't help the one who fell near me, I couldn't even breathe. There were so many standing on her," sobbed the girl," that her body went down into the mud. You couldn't even see her face because girls were standing on it."

Servando and Florentino, 16 and 15, left Wednesday morning for Miami.
