SUNDAY AFTERNOON DELIGHT

(An Epilogue to Superbowl Sunday 1994)

Well, our twins were born, on Tax Day, no less :) ! A very healthy boy and girl, and all four of us are doing fine, thanks to everyone who asked! Anyway, here is a little tickling escapade I had this past Sunday Afternoon:

The twins are finally learning to sleep through the night. However, Saturday night, my son decided to forget how to sleep through and was basically up every hour on the hour from about 2AM on. My wife and I took turns going to take him out o' the crib, soothing him back to sleep, etc., but we were both quite tired in the Sunday afternoon timeframe, my wife especially. Worse, she was getting a migraine (she is prone to them, and little things like lack of sleep can set them off). Anyway, Sunday around 2PM, my wife started a chicken roasting in the oven for dinner that night, while I entertained the kids. I got them to lay down for a nap, in fact (they were tired, too!). Once my wife got the chicken all set, she said she was going to go upstairs, take a headache pill (prescription stuff, knocks her out ;) ), and take a nap, herself.

I was watching the Patriots play the Bills on TV (amazing! the Pats have NEVER been sold out for their opening home game before, so no TV blackout!). About 45 minutes later, the first half was over, and NBC was doing their half-time show thing. So I decided to take a peek upstairs....

Our bedroom door was halfway open, so I slipped in without making any noise opening the door. My wife was laying on the bed, on her back, on top of the regular covers, with an afghan draped over her chest and legs. And she was sound asleep :) :). I gently lay on the bed on my side (nice king-size bed, too, so it didn't disturb her when I did), with my head down at the foot of the bed. I slowly picked up the end of the afghan covering her feet, and uncovered them, revealing her beautiful bare feet (for a complete description of her tootsies, read Superbowl Sunday 1994), shapely ankles and lower legs. I made sure again that she was asleep, and then started gently tickling her feet.

Instantly, her feet and toes began to twitch in response to my tickling. I dunno, maybe it was the headache medicine, but it seemed that my wife wasn't that deeply asleep, and yet she didn't wake up. I mean, her toes and feet were more wiggly and twitchy than normal when I tickled her, and she tossed her head a few times, moaning, but she never fully awoke while I tickled her. I was having a field day playing with her toes for about a half hour or so. And she never woke up!

Then one of the kids woke up crying (my son, whom we call 'The Boy Who Never Sleeps'), so I got up and went in the nursery to take care of him. Naturally, he didn't want to go back to sleep, so he & I went downstairs and watched the second half of the game (Pats lost :().

Anyway, it was fun while it lasted!
