About Sarah J. & by Sarah J.

Hi, so many people have asked about what happened when I was young to inspire my stories, and I have told a lot of you about me and a girl called Amy when I was young. I have also promised some of you I would write about it – so here it is… I have done it in parts coz it’s long (I have decided you would probably want to know all the detail) an I get very excited doing this as it’s like reliving it again – which is cool :-) Don’t expect it to be like my stories coz this is ‘real’, but you can probably see where those ideas came from. I have also decided not to ‘write’ it (y’know, as in trying to create a professional looking story), but just to put down the thoughts as they come out of my head, so it may be a bit jumbled an messy, but I don’t want to turn it into a work of fiction, it’s too important to me for that. Anyway, I hope you like it ©

Okay, where to begin… this is tough right coz it’s me writing about me and I never normally do that, but here goes anyway (yikes!) :-)

Part One: Meeting Amy

Well, I was born in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital, (the north one, not the one down in Osborne) and it’s also where my mom worked in the administrations department. Well my mom took about six months off after I was born an a neighbor looked after me coz my grandparent live in the Midwest. My mom an dad got divorced when I was five an he moved out, but I still saw him an stuff.

Anyway, when I was nine a new woman came to my mom’s work an she was called Suzy, an she had two daughter’s, Amy who was seven an Isabelle who was thirteen (I am an only child). Mom used to see Suzy outside work coz they were good friends an I had to play with Amy (I say ‘had to’ coz she was two years younger an that’s a lot at that age right? An I sort of liked her, I mean she was okay, but she was sort of too little really). Well we used to play with Barbie dolls an that was okay coz I loved my Barbies too an I didn’t see her that much.

About a year later Amy’s mom an dad got divorced an Amy didn’t care really coz her dad worked for America West airlines in Phoenix (everyone called it America Worst tho) an he was never around much anyway – but Suzy was upset an then her an my mom became like best friends (an they still are today). Well, we lived in Fountain Hills which is like a housing development outside of Scottsdale an mom persuaded Suzy to move up there – an that’s when I had to see Amy like ALL the time.

Amy seemed to want to hang around with me, even tho I didn’t coz it wasn’t cool to hang out with little kids, but it WAS cool to hang out with older girls so I guess I sort of figured that was why. But she was eight at that time an she had started to get like, really funky with me, y’know, sort of moody an competitive, an she would be mean to me, but then say how much she liked me. Which is all very confusing if you’re an adult, but when you’re a kid people are just what they are right? So Amy was just… well… Amy I guess.

When Suzy moved in to a house at the end of our street she an my mom would take it in turns to pick me an Amy up from Grade School (we went to the same school) an either Amy would come back to my place or I would go to hers. So I had to play with her every day, and she was always around on weekends too – an I got teased a lot about it by my friends.

One day at her place we were playing Barbies in the kitchen an Amy got us both a glass of OJ an I was drinking mine an Amy was kinda smiling at me funny while she was stripping my Barbies naked (I had four an I used to have to dress them all again when I got home coz that’s all she used to do was strip my Barbies naked an leave them in a pile, I used to get quietly cross about it, always quietly tho coz that was how I was, I would never say anything to anyone really) – anyway, she was grinning an I said…

“What?”

          An she said, “Nuthin”.

An I said, “Yeah there is! I can tell”. An she just laughed, so I folded my arms, like sulking an said “fine then”. An then I saw her look at my OJ (which was pretty near gone an just like a bit in the bottom) so I said, “What did you do Amy? I mean it, I’ll tell my mom!”

An she like grins an says, “Yeah right, like she would believe anyfing you said, crybaby-sarah”. An I told her not to call me that coz I didn’t like it, the girls at school would call me it coz I was easy to bully (tho I never, ever did tell teachers or moms, an I didn’t know why at the time, or that I sort of liked being bullied). Anyway, she goes “crybaby-sarah! crybaby-sarah!” sort of singing it like kids do.

“AMY!” I shouted, “What did you do to my OJ?”

“I spit in it,” she laughed, “ you been drinking my spit”.

“That’s gross,” I said, “I hate you” an I started crying, which I used to do a lot an kinda explains my nickname I guess, an it was probably right when I look back at it, it really WAS easy to make me cry. “I’ll get you back,” I threatened, but she just laughed.

“No you wont,” said Amy, sort of really confident, “Emma spit in your Pepsi one time in front of everyone, an she told you to drink it, an you did”.

“Who told you that?” I said, sobbing again

“Emma,” she said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “She said you liked spit, so I jus gived you some of mine”.

Now Emma was this girl in my year who I was really, really into coz she was like totally gorgeous, she was dark, an her dad was from India an her mom was just white-American like me, an she used to say she was princess an stuff like that – an everyone believed her coz she was so fucking cool. Anyway, I think she knew I liked her an I guess pretty girls get used to everyone thinking they’re hot, even other girls – but she would bully me all the time, an it was really weird coz I was in love with her but she was mean to me, an sometimes I would like dream about being in India (even tho I had no idea what it was like) where she was a princess in a palace an I was her servant, an I had to do what she said an she was mean to me all the time. An anyway, Amy was right I guess, I DID like Emma’s spit, even tho I cried after she made me do that.

So I said, “Emma never told you that, your just a liar, I bet it was just Becky or someone, she’s always telling stuff”. I think at the time I just couldn’t stand the idea that Emma would actually talk to Amy, I guess I was jealous or something.

“Yeah she did,” said Amy, “she said you were a crybaby loser an you like spit”.

“Shut up!” I said, an Amy just laughed.

“Hey Sarah,” she said, “you haven’t finished your OJ”. I just folded my arms tighter an stared at her, trying to look angry even tho I had been crying. “If you don’t drink it ALL up,” Amy said, “then I will tell Emma an Becky you drank my spit too, an they will tell everyone”.

“They wont believe you Amy, so shut up,” I said.

“Yeah they will,” she said, “they don’t like you anyway an Emma’s my friend, an Becky will tell anyone stuff about you coz she hates you”.

I sat looking down at the table for a couple of minutes an then I just grabbed the glass, like I was really mad at having to do it, an I drunk it. Well, it didn’t taste any different of course but I got really excited coz Amy had made me do it. Um, self-analysis – did I want to drink Amy’s spit? I don’t know really, I think it was more that she ‘made’ me do something, an I had been excited by that sort of thing since I was really little.
