Where's the Rest of the Story?
Just got an anonymous response to my “An Awkward Beginning” (Book 1 of “The Catalyst” Series) that said:
hey Dude what happened to chapters 13-16 of book 1?
I was about to read the first series but I won’t start until I have the lot. Too many authors start projects and leave their audience hanging.
I’ll keep an eye out. Once they are back up I’ll grab them and have a bit of a read.
Now this response was interesting for several reasons, but before I comment about how someone could miss the multiple link I have all over the place directing them to the rest of the story, let me explain
why
I’ve only posted incomplete portions of the stories to the ASSTR site. (Obviously it’s hard to respond to someone when they only send anonamous responses!)
ASSTR only has limited record keepting abilities. It basically limits you to about 40 some files. If I were to include each and every chapter I’ve written on the ASSTR site, I would no longer be able to monitor how many downloads the story receives. The reason for this is that the earlier stories get listed first, so the latest chapters simply wouldn’t be listed at all. Obviously, if I’m to have any idea of what activity the story is having, I have to limit how many files I store on ASSTR. (You should also note that notices like this further limit the amount of chapters I can post online)
In order to be fair about this, I’ve chosen to list a significant amount of chapters from each book. None of the three books show all the chapters, but each one offers enough chapters for anyone to get a feel for the story and for each individual book.
If you were to examine any one of these stories, you’d notice that each has several links directing you to the next chapter, the previous chapter, and also to the “Index Page”, where you can find any specific chapter you need to find (including the Character List—which is necessary with so many characters).
I don’t like limiting what’s available to my readers, but I’m trying my best to work around the record keeping capacity of ASSTR. I hope that gives you some idea of why I only have selected chapters of my story available. Just be aware that the full story is available, you just have to start reading it to discover the rest.
