The rest of the week seemed a blur for jenny and before she knew it she was back at home. Unlike the old Jenny she woke on the first ring of the alarm bright and raring to go. Showering, eating breakfast and getting ready took almost no time at all. Before she realized it she was on her way to work. "Work" how she loves the sound of it. The word WORK rolled off her tongue like a sweet drop of honey and sent a shiver of delight coursing through her body. For some strange reason Jenny was looking forward going to work. It was not that Jenny hates work but now she just seemed more motivated and excited than before. She could not wait to put her new ideas and beliefs into practice that she learned from going to the seminar.
It does not matter to Jenny that she is an hour early and the first one in the office. Unlocking the door and stepping inside she got a small rush having arrived at her desk to start her day. Jenny sees the pile of backlogged work on her desk she lets out a soft mew of pleasure. Sitting down Jenny powers up her computer and pulls a CD player out of her bag. Pulling the headphones on she listens to a motivational CD she got from the seminar as she works. Jenny is hard at work when the first of her coworkers in the office started drifting in and past her desk.
Barely looking up from her pile of paperwork and files, Jenny glances to see them file in like cattle. A wave of disgust at their slow and sloppy manner ripples through her and the words "bad worker" flash through her mind followed by a sharp pain in her head. Most are barely motivated enough to walk through the door let alone to start working. Jenny had been at it for at least an hour before they came. She was in a focused and upbeat mood knowing she was a "good worker". Smiling she went back to her pile of waiting transactions and proposals.
A short redheaded gal stood by Jenny's desk, "Hey there stranger, welcome back from the void." She laughed at the greeting and waited for jenny to take notice. Jenny glances up at the redhead while working. Pausing the CD she pulls off the headset looks up an irritated by the interruption. The irritation slides away and is replaced with a smile, "missed me did you?" Before the redhead can reply Jenny continues, "Sorry would love to chat but I have all this to catch up on." She puts the headset back on, pushes play all in one fluid motion. Looking away she dismisses her friend and throws herself back into her work. She was happy to be back at work.
The red head, Carie, looked at Jenny a moment stunned to be dismissed so offhand and then in a small hurt voice said, "oh... well.. umm... see you at lunch?" She waited a few moments and the continued, "earth to Jenny... earth to Jenny come in" Jenny glances at her and lifts one side of the headset up in time to hear Carie say, "See you at lunch girlfriend?" Jenny rolled her eyes, snorts and nods her head as if to say "yea what ever." She drops the headset back in place and throws herself into work a sigh of bliss coming from her lips as her eyes focus back on the computer screen before her. "Ohhhh kay.." Carie says and leaves muttering, "Someone got up on the wrong side of bed this morning."
There are other welcomes from other workers who missed her presence during the last week. Jenny nods at them but says little in return. Her replies are not meant to offend. She just wants to get back to work and not destroy her newfound rhythm. Now that she was back, being a good worker is the most important thing to Jenny. Diligently she completes each task and data entry of each file. Time slipped away from her like sand falling through an hourglass. Each file done brought a new sense of pleasure and mew of delight from her lips.
When Jenny next looks up she sees it is close to 11:30. For four and half-hours Jenny had worked without a break, she feels an orgasmic surge of pleasure knowing she is a "good worker" for not taking breaks. Jenny also feels good knowing that she is catching up so fast and her skills in data entry and filling out those pesky forms seemed to be no trouble at all. It was as if it had always been that way for her. This makes her proud; she could see why she was chosen to go to that seminar. Her work is important. Her productivity is important. The bosses would be pleased for sure. There is a strange wetness she is feeling as she works harder and close to lunch time but that does not deter Jenny from the job.
Lunch rolls around and Carie came back by to see Jenny still working away, "I'm back... miss me?" She said playfully to Jenny. Jenny looks at her and says, "I'm sorry but I have to get caught up. Perhaps tomorrow."
"Oh okay" the redhead say crestfallen and starts to turn away. Carie turns back, "You know Jen..." The hurt in her voice at being dissed by her friend two times in one day too much for her, "No matter how hard you work you will get no where dressed like that."
Jenny looks up stopping work for the first time that day, "What's wrong with how I dress?" she replies confused and hurt.
In a nasty voice Carie says, "Look at you! You look like a constipated librarian." She turns and leaves Jenny sitting there stunned.
Jenny's mind plays over the comment and half shrugs it off. She slowly goes back to work but the joy the spark fading. Her mind looping the words "dress.... wrong... work" over and over. The longer she sits there working the more the basic wrongness of her clothing feels to her almost like sandpaper against bare skin. Her eyes travel to other workers and look at what they are wearing, comparing herself to them. Jenny tries to get her mind back on the workload but instead watches and looks at the other women in the office feeling a twinge at certain clothing and shuddering at others and making unconscious mental notes.
Something in Jenny's mind commands, "Must go shopping..." Jenny accepts the command nodding. Maybe she should ask Carie to go with her to get the right kind; since she pointed out to Jenny she was wearing the wrong ones. The idea made her smile as she felt the wetness again. She watched as Carie passed by to go to lunch. Calling to her, "Hey Car...Why don't I make it up to you and we can go shopping later after work and maybe a drink or two?" She saw Carie light up at the possibility and seeing her old friend finally back and nodded. Jenny was happy and made the appointment for them to go after work. She got up to grab her lunch she made. This was nothing new for most but for Jenny she always went out for lunch but not this time. She ate her homemade sandwich and worked on her reports trying hard to get caught up. She ate a little of the meal getting much more work done.
Jenny next looked at the clock as her pile wound down to the last twenty or so reports to work on and saw it was 4:30, almost quitting time. Her mind again shifted into a higher gear and she frantically works with no distractions to finish her task. As the minutes tick by she tries working even faster but no matter how hard Jenny tries she can not finish all the work by five. Jenny feels a sense of crushing defeat in the pit of her stomach. She let the company down. Jenny did not know what had gone wrong, why was she not able to finish the task of finishing her work.
She sat at her desk on the verge of tears when Carie came by to grab her. "What's wrong honey?" she said seeing the look on Jenny's face. "You look like someone ran over your puppy".
Jenny looked up her chin quivering and eyes filled with unshed tears about to be poured, "I didn't finish... I'm... I'm a bad worker." With those words said she breaks down into great wracking sobs.
Carie looks and listens with disbelief at Jenny's words. Giving her a friendly hug from behind she says, "No your not Jen, you did very good today." Jenny turns throws herself into Carie's arms clinging to her whimpering. Carie holds her and strokes her back saying, "I am sure you will do better tomorrow."
Jenny clings to Carie almost like a child would her mother and says in a small voice, "You think so car?" In jenny's mind Carie's words echo "do better tomorrow."
The redhead smiles, "I know so. Come on girlfriend... We got shopping to do."
Jenny looks up into Carie's face, the tears drying and a smile blooming, "Shopping... yes" She turns and shuts down her computer, puts away her files and cleans up her area. As she does Jenny sees Carie's reflection in the monitor and the words, "girlfriend... good worker... do better..." flash in her mind. Jenny turns, "All ready... girlfriend." Jenny's mind focusing on her new task as she follows her out office.
From one of the offices someone watches a tape of jenny working throughout the day. "Very good...It seems the programming has taken." The person smiled wide like a Cheshire cat and turns to watch Jenny leave the office. "But lets see what tomorrow brings..."
Jenny and Carie went to one of Carie's favorite shops. Jenny looked like she was lost among all the clothes as she browsed through them. 'Which ones... which ones were the right kind?' Jenny thought as she looked. Turning to Carie she pleads with her eyes for help. Carie smiles and winks at her. As she turns to start picking out clothing she misses Jenny's blush.
Carie picks out a few outfits and hands them to Jenny. "Here go try these on and see what you think." She nearly had to push Jen toward the fitting room. "Trust me hon. You will look good in them." As Jenny would come out wearing each outfit Carie would look and then send her back to make a change. She became aware that Jenny seemed to be flirting with her and was willing to go with any dress that she liked. "Naaa," Carie said to herself, "I have been working too hard."
Jenny took the clothes and did as her friend suggested. As they shopped something clicked in her mind and Jenny became more passive to Carie's decisions. She found it easier to let her friend make the final decisions on which ones to buy. It seemed like hours had passed before Jenny was through and had purchased new outfits for work because Carie seemed to like her in them.
Feeling famished she and Carie went to one of their favorite places for a bite to eat and to catch up. Jenny went on and on about how wonderful the conference was but could not remember anything specific. When it came time to hear about the office gossip she heard Carie but in reality just spent the time looking into her face. Jenny could not seem to really care about the gossip. Just content to sit and listen though was enough for her.
After the evening of shopping and chatting Jenny goes home, gets everything ready for tomorrow before going to bed. Getting her CD player she puts it on, gets into bed and turns off the light. In the darkness her voice sounding flat, a mechanical one says, "Unit... Program... Zeta nine" followed by a high pitched squealing from the CD.
