TEN YEAR OLD GIVES BIRTH

A 10-year-old girl from Cameroon has given birth to a baby in Switzerland, justice authorities have said.

An investigation was under way to identify the father of the child, born a month ago in a hospital in the southern Valais region and now in the care of a foster family, a judicial source said.

Officials initially suspected the 68-year-old lover of the girl's mother, but DNA tests showed he was not responsible.

However, the man did have sexual relations with the girl and is facing charges.

The girl's mother, a Cameroonian national married to a Swiss citizen, brought her children to Switzerland after moving here herself.
