As for the French and the Germans, their motivation to "support"
Saddam's regime (a regime of murderous oppression, that you seem to
have not cared about) was PURELY financial.

in Afghanistan, and Saddam's failure to comply with UN edicts and the
TERMS of the CEASEFIRE are justification enough.
