Sorry for not explaining more carefully. Michael Vick was the quarterback
for the Atlanta Falcons - a professional American Football team. He was
making millions in salary and even more millions in endorsement money until
just lately when police raieded on of his estates. He didn't live there but
was 'loaning' it to some of his friends and they used it to raise, train,
and kill fighting dogs. Further investigation tied him to the 'sport' more
closely and he was indited on US Federal charges. The 'sport' is not legal
in the United States.
Sadly for Vick, Nike and others no longer wanted to be associated quite so
closely with him and he was even suspended from National Football League
participation until the legal process has run its course.
As far as I know the fighting cocks were just something I threw in since it
is a similar 'sport.'
Now, about the 'happy ending' thing. My best read of the situation at
StoriesOnline is that most of the readers are of the older persuasion and
you are probably correct in thinking that they want a happy ending. In fact
I believe they demand one. It works out well for me since that is usually
all I'm interested in writing but I fear they won't be enthusiastic about
anything else, at least I don't think the majority of them will.
