My brother was an 11-month-baby; and Mom says I would have been; only the doctor
decided I'd been in there long enough and went for a Caesarian. So, I was only
a 10-month-baby. It runs in our family. That's why I have the same birthday as
my older brother (who drowned at 4 years old). Mom said if it was that close
already, why not have both of us with the same birthday? So, she put it off
another couple of days. So, as a kid, I always felt cheated out of not having
my own separate birthday. MY own kid, born on *my* birthday, says never felt
cheated that way.
However, I understand long-term pregnancies runs more often with older women,
not young teens like in the story. I also understand that if you get women like
my mother with really long gestations, the doctors these days tend to induce
labor with chemicals. I guess the feeling is that long-term-pregnancies aren't
all that good. But, with no data, it's hard to find out why.
Would you believe it's almost impossible to find out what the world record for
the longest human gestation is? There's a bunch of hoaxes and such; and various
women talking about their horribly long pregnancy (most of which were only a
week or so over) but I can't find any clinical data.
You'd *think* there would be such out there ... along with some kind of graphs
of what the averages are. Darn.
If they're there, I can't find them.
I spent close to an hour looking; and I'm way overdue for bed.
