I've never tried any hair remover in that area. I hope the newer
types are less corrosive than the early ones. I did experiment with
one in my early twenties and used it on my face. It was not a
pleasant experience.
I use a twin blade razor and shave. As long as I do it regularly I
don't need to worry about missing the longer pubic hairs. I use lots
of warm, soapy water and shave as part of my bath routine.
I once tried using a powered hair cutter... OK as long as the touch
was light and careful. One slip though and I managed to nip myself.
Again, not something I want to repeat, so patience and the razor is
the usual method now.

So, I shave from the base of my scrotum all the way up through my
'pubic triangle and out onto my thighs. In effect, I make sure I get
rid of *any* hair that is potentially long enough to get caught.
FWIW, I think the initial shaving is something a guy should do
himself. It takes a light and patient touch to get everything the
first few times.
Later maintenance is easier and probably not as risky if someone else
does it.
