===================

Today Nick Scipio posted chapter 22 of his ongoing work Summer Camp,
Book 3, "Kendall". It can be found here:

http://www.nickscipio.com/summercamp/book3/

Let us presume, going into the lecture of SC 3, 22, that the chapter's
19/20 have been one of the highpoints of SC 3 and, since Nick
anounced, that SC 3 _probably_ will end with chapter 29 or 30, the
next chapters will rest on a level, in which tension is not so high,
but push the plot, until again the tension will built up to the big
final...

Chapter 21 was about the aftermath of the P-K-F threesome, or Snow
Night. But I am not sure, whether chapter 21 was a rest to chapter
19/20 or the beginning of the next chapter. I expressed this in the
forum and Nick respoded, very _vague_, that chapter 21 was kind of
,,uber-chapter" -- and I knew less than before. Well the word uber I
remarked since then several times in the web, and I should understand
its meaning (since its origin is German...), but ... never mind.

So let us have a look to the actual chapter and my immidiate thoughts.

> (...) I spent a moment or two wondering why I _lusted_ after
> her. She was beautiful, but her beauty came with a number
> of problems that _I_ wasn't the answer to. But her _body_...

Paul, as it seems, is starting to consider about problems, but the
little head and Felicia's _body_ are still stronger.

But the readers are curious about Gina, and the next subchapter Paul
is meeting Gina at the airport, when returning from Vermont.

> ,,Did you have fun?" I asked her.
> ,,God, yes," she said. ,,I'm sore, I don't want to _see_ any
> booze for the next month, and I need a good night's sleep,
> but yeah, we had a great time."

At the first moment, I read, ,,I'm sorry," but then looked back. Sore
from what?

The next couple of lines, again, will lead to discussions, if Gina is
using cocaine or not.

> (...) Gina took a shower. She emerged refreshed, and smiled
> as she joined me on her bed.

Refreshed vs. freshing up...

> ,,God," she said, straddling my hips, ,,I missed you."
> ,,I missed you too."

Not so true, isn't it? Or, missing you, I got so horny, that I needed
to go for Kendall, hooked up Felicia and even later I fucked the
salesgirl alone.

> ,,I want you to screw me silly," she said. ,,You can't
> _imagine_ how horny I am."

So, what is Nick's intention here? Shall we believe, that Gina even at
home, now, when showering snored some cocaine or, on the opposite,
we're to believe, that being horny is only normal and natural for Gina?

Remember SC 3, 14 (and Bill put all evidence together in his post , to
be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Scipio_Forum/message/24865)

> >"I want you to screw me silly."
...
> "God, yes. I'm so horny, I think I might explode."

(from Billy's citation 7)

So what is the maintream opinion now? Gina just snored coke, at home?
Or Gina-typical horniness as usual?

Is the following for showing us, how faithful Gina is?

> ,,Hot, fresh come," she continued. ,,Going a week
> without isn't easy, you know," she added.

Lies? Or the thruth? What really happened in Vermont?

* * *

The next scene, is about giving Susan presents.

> Her present from the Coulters was too big to wrap,
> so they wrapped a box containing the product
> brochure instead. (The present itself was teak patio
> furniture: a table and four chairs.)
> ,,I know the brochure doesn't do it justice," Chris
> said, ,,but the display in the store looked fantastic.
> We thought you'd like it for the patio outside your
> bedroom."
> ,,We got it in Carmel, California," Elizabeth added.

What is in Carmel? When the Coulters have been there? What they did?
Is this only an unimportant detail, like maybe Scipio, Kansas or a
hook for a subplot which will occur later in the story?

> It was of her house, from three-quarter perspective. Her
> eyes flicked over the details, taking it all in: the jasmine
> growing up the courtyard wall, the wrought iron patio
> furniture visible within the courtyard itself, the pergola
> over her private patio, all of it.

Oh -- how many readers just believed, that Paul's drawing showed a
nude Susan? Don't mind, guys, I did, since I forgot that Paul isn't
Christy, but an architecture student! Silly Franz!

> ,,A VHS?!" he said, his expression pained.
> ,,What's the matter?" Susan asked.
> ,,Who recommended this? Don't they know that the
> Betamax is much better technology?

A true detail, but laws of market ... if I know it rightly, the beta
system is today only used within television studios, but indeed, the
picture was sharper, I remember back... Nevertheless, Chris is
incorrigible.

Gina's present is ,,a stainless steel ladies Rolex watch" -- since she
`lost` her watch in Paul's room, before his second roommate was
arrested for selling cocaine.

During the giving of presents I gained the idea, that Susan indeed is
rich. Well, we knew, that she isn't poor, but giving all the presents
to -- just friends? VCRs, a watch, flying hours ...

> ,,Besides, this way, you don't have to worry about
> being able to afford it if you want to fly somewhere."
> ,,Say, like South Carolina," Chris quipped.
> ,,Like South Carolina," my dad agreed. ,,Just
> for example, of course."

Is this a more or less subtle hint to Paul -- ,,Visit Susan if a
problem occurs, you mind to discuss with your parents?"

> ,,I thought we might like to fly to Susan's once in a
> while," she [Gina] said. ,,You know, just to get away
> from it all."
> _And to get away from Kendall,_ I mentally supplied.

A litttle bit surprisingly, I didn't expect this, we got some further
informations about the common past, David and Jack spent in the Navy.

<citation>
The picture was of Jack, standing next to his A-4 Skyhawk on the deck
of an aircraft carrier. He was smiling and flashing a thumbs-up. He
looked cheerful, cocky, and full of life.
,,On their first cruise together," Mom added.
,,That was what," Susan asked, ,,1966?"
Mom and Dad nodded together.
,,Some of the pictures are from our photo albums, with a few that I
filched from yours," Mom said, ,,but most of them are from our trip
down to Los Cabos."
(I knew the story, but only vaguely. When my father and Jack had
returned from cruise, Jack borrowed a friend's sailboat. He and Susan
had invited my parents to join them as they sailed down the Baja
California coast to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.)
</citation>

Susan and Paul are going inside, Leah wants to follow, but ...

> At that point, Gina got her sister's attention and started
> telling Leah about the sorority ski trip.

I rather stayed outside, too, but Nick forced us to follow Paul and
Susan inside. But it was worth it. The scene, in which Susan is
gifting Paul the compass is very emotional, at least was very
emotional for me.

> ,,So now, in a strange way, I'm giving the compass to its
> rightful owner."
> Suddenly, I had to blink back tears of my own.

Suddenly, I had to blink back tears of my own. I really liked this
scene.

Gina knew of the compass, as we learn, she's also talking with Susan.
Present are surprises, and another surprise is, that it seems, that
Gina is more intelligent, than we ever believed:

> ,,I mean, I'm even willing to try to work things
> out with Kendall... again."
> ,,Do you want to drive up to Chattanooga with me
> tomorrow?" I asked immediately.
> ,,That's a dumb idea," she said without heat. ,,I
> mean, think about it for a moment. Kendall thinks
> she's got you for the night, by yourself. How will she
> feel if _I_ show up uninvited?"

Was there a reason, in Vermont, which Gina let change her mind? Did
she learn the truth? (Her or the Greek side of the truth?)

> ,,Leah, if Susan and Gina want to have sex with Paul,
> then that's the way it's going to be. Paul is _Gina's_
> boyfriend. You know how we do things... the women
> make the rules."

But who makes the rules in the G-P-K relationship? Gina? Kendall? Yes.
Mom, no buts!

Following is a funny Leah-Elizabeth dispute.

> ,,You are incorrigible," Gina shot back. Then she
> pinched my ribs.
> ,,Hey! That hurt."
> ,,And I'll do it again if you don't behave," Gina said,
> repeating her mother's words from earlier.

Is there still anybody doubting, that SC is full from déjr-vu scenes
and mirrored sitations?

> ,,Elizabeth seems to have things well in hand," she said.
> ,,So do you," Chris quipped.
> Mom rolled her eyes. ,,I meant with Leah," she said.
> ,,I was just making an observation," he said, trying to
> sound innocent.

But to what (whom?) that was a reflection?

The following sex is funny, some dry English humour included.

> ,,And I _won't_ share him with you," Leah finished,
> glaring at Gina.

Leah said this as a revanche, for Gina being reluctant sharing Paul
with her. But Leah probably hit her sister, considering that this is
exactly the behaviour Kendall has in Gina¨s eyes. That wasn't good --
and not polite.

The discussion, Gina and Paul are having on Kendall is interesting,
containing some interesting details.

> ,,Just remember that I'm your first girlfriend. Okay?"

First as in `first in a row' or as in `main'?

So the chapter ends, with Paul in a good mood.

> Maybe I wouldn't have to make a choice after all.
> Maybe, just maybe.

That VERB is playing with this choice to be made for several chapters
now. Paul just has another three weeks time

The length of chapter 22 was less than average in SC 3. It was a funny
one, not so oversexed like the chapters before, but still -- well for
me it was the perfect mix! (If only there was not this unanswered
question: What happened in Vermont?)

Have a nice day.
