Chapter 25 (Epilogue)
When I started to tell you my story I intended it to be about how I met
Callie and eventually her daughters and how that led to our marriage and
life together. As I told the story it seemed proper to carry it forward
and tell you of the major events that followed. Now I've reached the
point where not much new happens on a daily or even weekly basis. So now
I'm going to bring you up to date on those events that are significant
and also tell you about each person and where they are today.
My Investment in Amazon.com grew rapidly over the 1998-99 period. In
December of 1999 I got scared and sold all 10,000 shares at $106 per
share. Even after taxes that left us with a sizable nest egg. Much of
that money is still available and invested in CD's at my bank. I have
spent some but not a great deal. I want there to be a significant amount
for my family after I die. No I'm not planning on dying any time soon.
I didn't buy a new house. We love the one we have lived in since we
first moved in together and can't imagine living any place else. It is
more than adequate for our needs as you will see. I am saddened to
report that our landlady passed away in 2000. As she had promised, the
house was left to Callie and me. Since there was no next of kin, Callie
and I handled all her final needs and her funeral was attended by our
family.
The claim for malpractice and wrongful death that Bob handled for Frank
and Patty was settled a year after Emily's death. They each received
five million dollars. Patty's money is in a trust fund which will be
turned over to her on her twenty-first birthday. Frank administers it
and can use some of it for her education and living expenses but he
doesn't need to. She'll find the whole amount plus earnings there when

Frank used some of his money to buy a lovely home for his family and to
start a contracting business. He's very well off and having a lot of fun

little over a year and then moved to their new home. We still see them
often.
Frank and Jenn were married six months after Emily passed away. Patty
and Jill were ecstatic and we all celebrated the event. After a few
months Frank asked Jill if she would consent to his adopting her. After
a long talk she declined, being sure to make him understand it was not

Jill graduated from high school with honors and is now a student at MIT
studying Electrical Engineering. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and loves it.
She has a boyfriend who seems to be a very nice young man. We all met
him when she brought him home for christmas. He's also a student, with
the same major as Jill. I think they are likely to be married right
after they graduate.
Jill and I never had sex again after that vacation. She and I did fool

relationship with Frank was very special to her and she was faithful to

Julie was a big surprise to us. She loves school and as a result did

see no reason to doubt her dreams will be fulfilled.
Julie has friends at school but nobody special yet. She's too interested
