I said, "Well we will buy you some clothes later."

She said, "So when are we going?"

I said, "As soon as we know the girls are asleep and it looks like everyone else is asleep."

We lay on the bed and kissed and talked until about midnight. We then snuck outside. She picked up the paper sack and we got into the car and drove off. I headed the car west toward Arizona and we drove all night.

By the time we got to Tucson Arizona it was daylight. I woke Brenda up as we pulled into a truck stop. I filled up with gas, got us some hamburgers for breakfast and we ate them in the car.

I then said, "So let me see that bag."

She reached into the back seat and handed me the paper bag. I took the money out. Holy shit, it was all 100 dollar bills. I slowly counted it. There was $4,300 in that sack. I kissed her and stuffed it into the glove box.

I stopped before we got too far and went into a Wal-Mart and bought Brenda two dresses, some panties and some shorts and tops. I also bought a small suit case, all the toiletries we would need and some snacks. We hit the road again.

For the next three days we drove. I mean we got a motel every night, but we wound up in a town called Redding California. It's up in northern California and looked like a town I would like.

We rented a weekly motel room and I started looking for a job. I found one the second day of looking and boy was it a neat job. It was real weird how I got the job too. I was having lunch in a small café and the guy next to me at the counter started talking to me.

We talked for a while and when he found out that I was looking for a job he told me that he was looking for a helper.

I asked him what the job would be and he told me that he was a Rancher and did a lot of traveling buying cattle and selling cattle. He said that he needed someone to watch over his Ranch and help his wife while he was gone and to help him when he was around.

I asked him how much it would pay and he told me that he would start me off with $550 a month plus room and board. I told him that I had a girl friend too and he told me that was no problem since I would have my own cabin next to their house.

Wow, this sounded too good to be true. He gave me directions to get to his ranch and I left and went back to the motel. I told Brenda and she was all excited too.

I am going to wrap this story up now. We have been with Rick on his ranch now for two and a half years. Brenda and I now have two lovely babies and we got married last year. Rick loves us and so does his wife. They never had kids so they really help us with ours too.

Brenda never speaks of the Ranch in New Mexico. I, however, often think about the place and wonder how my three or five kids are doing. I think that one of these days I will drive out there and see what's going on at that place. I wouldn't do it until I could pay Father Paul back his money though.

Oh, and the other day when I was on a trip with Rick, he told me that he had no relatives and wondered if I would be interested in taking over the Ranch when he died. I of course told him yes, but also told him not to think like that. He is pretty old however.
