"It is Coke father, the most popular soft drink in the world. Try it father."

"Bah!" Odin said, "Is there no beer or ale served in this place?"

"No father there is not, please taste the drink before you pass judgment upon it."

Odin reached for the container. He could sense that it was frail compared to the Ale mugs he was used to. He tried to adjust his mighty strength accordingly. But not being used to doing such he grasped the container and crushed it. Coke and ice flew up and in all directions, splashing onto the table and soaking Odin.

Angered, Odin stood up knocking the table off its mounting bolts and ripping the back off the chair, sending Mary and her daughter tumbling to the floor. Odin stomped his foot and the glass all around the restaurant shattered, sending all of the people in the restaurant plummeting to the floor.

Due to the fact he was a god in his own right Thor was the only one still seated in the restaurant. "Father," Thor said.

"Son, I have seen enough!" Odin roared causing the ground to shake, knocking all of the humans within a ten block radius of the restaurant to the ground.

Odin turned to his son and said, "Thor my son, what has become of you?"

Thor stood up and replied, "Father, humans have progressed and they no longer need us."

The words Thor spoke were almost the same words Loki had used. Odin looked at his son and he knew Thor was speaking the truth. He wanted to say something but what? If humans no longer needed the gods he himself was obsolete.

It was a very sad moment for the fierce king of the Norse gods. But not one to wallow in self-pity he looked at Thor and said, "Then I will change the Earth back to the way it was."

"Go ahead and try father, but you will find that you no longer have the power to mold the Earth to your will."

By this time Mary and Dagny had regained their composure and were standing up. Odin gestured and the sky turned black with thunder clouds.

"My lord, please stop," Mary begged.

"Why?" Odin glared at her.

"Humans have acquired the power of the gods. If you try to change the Earth you will destroy it and Asgard in the process."

Odin could not believe his ears. He turned to Thor and asked, "Is this true? Do humans now have the powers of the gods?"

"Yes father, it is true. Humans now have the power of the sun itself."

"How did they gain this knowledge?"

"I gave it to them, father."

"You son, why would you do such a thing?"

"To build the perfect world father, a world ruled by the corporation."

"The corporation? What is that?"

"It is this restaurant and others like it. It is a mega conglomerate, it is one world, one Mac-world ruled by me and my minions. And there is nothing you can do to stop it, father. Now father, I have important work to do. If you wish to speak to me again make an appointment."

Thor turned his back on Odin and started to walk out of the restaurant. Odin wanted to smite Thor but he could not for he still loved him. He also knew he had to do something to stop Thor but what? He was out of place in this new world Thor had fashioned.

Odin stood there saddened but angered at the same time. He knew he had to stop Thor but he also knew he needed an ally and there was only one he could turn to. "Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water, heed my call." Odin said.

The earthly elements answered the king of the Norse god's call. Wind, fire, water, and air swirled around Odin. He spoke again, "Take me and my women to Loki."

Protected by a bubble of air, Odin, Mary and Dagny transported to the very spot Odin had landed on a few short hours ago. Odin followed by Mary and Dagny walked into the bar.

Loki saw Odin enter the bar and smiled. He could tell by the scowl on Odin's face that this was it. He would now take his brother's place and rule the Earth. "Pops," he smiled, "Back so soon?"

"Loki, I have need of your assistance."

Ruler of the Earth, Playground of the Gods, the thoughts delighted Loki and he asked, "Pops, what is it that you need of me?"

"I need you to help me defeat Thor."

"Pops, can't you do that by yourself?" Loki asked, surprised.

"I believe you already know that is no longer possible."

"I guess I do but what can we do to stop Thor? He has become very powerful here on Earth."

"Loki, I grant you permission to open your entire bag of tricks."

"All of them, Pops?"

"Yes all. This is the beginning of Ragnarok. While it is not the one foretold to us by the Fates, it is Ragnarok nonetheless."

"If this is Ragnarok Pops, my tricks will not be enough to battle Thor. We will need lots of money to do battle with him."

"Can gold still be used?"

"Yes Pops. But I know something that is worth more than gold."

"More than gold? What is worth more than gold?"

"Oil?"

"I will explain it all to you later, Pops. What we need to do now is celebrate our alliance."

"Celebrate? There is no time for that."

"Pops, there is always time for that and as we speak my minions are already hard at work devising ways to stop Thor and his Mac-world."

"Already? You truly are the trickster."

"I sure am, Pops. Now let us have a drink and celebrate our new alliance."

"A drink? Not a Coke I hope."

"Pops, you should know me better than that. I have a drink and it is called the 'Jewel of the Devil'."

Odin laughed. A drink so named had to be good. "Very well," Odin said. "Let's seal the bargain."

"Pops there----"

"I already know what you require." Odin said interrupting Loki. "Mary, our new Earthly messenger, will attend to that for us. Mary, I grant you the power of Earth, Wind, and Fire. Seek out women like you and young girls like Dagny and bring them to us."

Loki snapped his fingers and the bartender brought on a tray a bottle of 151 rum and three shot glasses. The bartender set the tray on a table next to Loki and Odin. Loki opened the bottle and poured two full double shots and a half shot for Dagny.

He gave one of the double shots to Odin and the half shot to Dagny. He raised his glass and said, "To our alliance, to Ragnarok, to Victory!"

Odin had a war to win and who better to have at his side in this strange new war but Loki?

He let it be known to them that they could obtain a vast storehouse of oil, black gold, if they but turned their war machine against a brutal dictator running a certain mid-eastern country. Indeed these men even enlisted the leaders of the most powerful nation on Earth to invade that country.

While these powerful mortals were thus pre-occupied with their war, Thor found himself with fewer allies than he expected to have on his side. Even Tyr the war god was against him. Still Thor and his minions put up a brave battle against his father Odin, his brother Loki and the Aesir.

Instead of Ragnarok leading to the death of all the gods, only a few perished.

Meanwhile much of the industrial wealth of the Earth had been expended on a needless war. The corporation Mac-world was defeated by angry mobs of people who dragged out its formerly powerful leaders and hanged them all. With the Earth now in ruins, many people prayed to the gods for relief from their misery.

Odin and his Aesir, his gods, were needed once more. He put Loki in charge of running the Earth and restoring order there. Loki soon turned the Earth into a Playground of the Gods. Odin, Balder, Tyr and many other gods enjoyed visiting Earth and partaking of the pleasures that only the young Earth girls could give them.
