Depravity, Texas

Disclaimer: The appeal of writing a story like this is that in writing it there is no one hurt by it. In real life I would never condone any of the activities described within and if someone is abusing children, physically, mentally or sexually I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In other words, leave fantasy in the fantasy world, ladies and gentlemen. Otherwise, enjoy.

Chapter 1

My heart thundered in my chest as I crept between the rows of boxes and crates. I could hear some rustling in the shadows of the old warehouse as I held my 9mm in my hand. I knew I had hit him when I fired the first two shots and knew he wasn't going far.

Walking by some old boxes I called out his name, "Lee, I got five units surrounding the place now! Give it up!" I heard him whining about 25 yards in front of me. There were some old crates and a metal press of some sort as I squinted. "Show me your hands Lee!" Holding his hands up over the crate he cried and sniveled. "I don't want to go to jail!" Inching closer I held my breath and then grabbed his hands and slammed him hard to the cement floor and cuffed him. He screamed as the bullet hole through his shoulder ached from the torn tendons and the position of his arms behind his back in the cuffs. "That's not up to me if you go to jail. It's up to the judge."

After following procedure and checking him for weapons and drugs, I pulled him bleeding from the warehouse and handed him over to the EMTs, where he was loaded up in the ambulance with a black and white and taken to the St. Joseph's hospital. I heard a familiar voice call out and I looked over and saw my Captain. He was on the phone with district attorney, I was assuming, and talking, "Yeah he is in custody. He's being transported to St Joseph. I'll have Sgt. Nemin type up the on-site report before his shift is over with."

He then closed his cell phone and looked at me. "That cashier lady over at Save More Foods died. Mr. Lee Hutchins is gonna be charged with murder. Did you find the weapon?"

I shook my head. "He didn't have it on him but I think he tossed it out when I was chasing him down Yoland Avenue."

Another black and white walked up and announced, "They just found that .40 cal, Captain." He then ran back toward his car. I jumped into my car after getting instructions from Captain Lu and headed home. What a long day. After busting down the door of a meth lab and rounding up more leads in another case, I was put into pursuit of Lee Hutchins after he had gunned down the clerk at a convenience store while robbing it. Damn, did I ever need a vacation!

I drove my Nissan Altima through the now mostly abandoned streets of Rippel, Texas. Over the past 10 years, its tiny population had skyrocketed, due to the new manufacturing facilities, the casino, and an Air force base. At one time the biggest problems the town had was the occasional bar brawl. As the population went up, so did the stakes in crime. Meth had moved in, bringing gang activity, burn victims, and violence with it.

I pulled my car into my small 3-bedroom house's driveway and walked in. I hung up my suit coat and then walked into my bedroom and changed clothes. I slid my black, University of Texas sweat pants over my runner's legs. I then pulled off my gun and dress shirt and slipped my burnt orange, UT t-shirt over my tan, smooth body. I slapped my gut before doing so and thought, "I got to stop eating McDonalds for breakfast."

I sat down on my computer, brought up the incident report. I typed into it all the pertinent information about the shooting and then opened my e-mail account so I could send it into Cpt. Lu. There was a message waiting for me, from him. "Rick, Come to my office tomorrow before you report. Lu" I replied with a simple "yes sir" and attached the incident report from tonight. I lay down in my bed and looked over at the empty spot that my wife used to occupy. I couldn't help but think how good it would be to hold her or any other lady right now. I then closed my eyes and went to sleep.

After waking up the next morning, and after running a razor over my face and a comb through my light brown hair, I walked into Cpt. Lu's office. I smiled at him as he was holding back a flood of cuss words as he talked to his contact in the mayor's office. Finally he said "Okay, I'll add that to the list of shit I have to do!" He then slammed the phone down and mumbled "asshole". He looked at me and motioned for me to have a seat.

"Rick, thanks for getting that report to me last night. I know you had to have been exhausted when you got home." I nodded. "Well Rick, you've been going non-stop since your divorce and I know you told me this is all you got going right now, but you have to take a vacation, bud."

I looked up at him, "What, why?"

He leaned back in his chair, "After the suicides in New Orleans following the Katrina disaster, every cop has to take at least 2 weeks off per year. I know you don't want to, but tough shit, Rick. I want you to go home, buy a ticket to some exotic location and sit on your ass and drink pina coladas for 2 weeks. If you show up here I'll suspend your ass without pay. Now get out and have some fun…" He cracked a smile, "As hard as that may be!"

I went home immediately after stopping by my locker and grabbing out my gym bag and some other stuff. After getting home, I got on the computer and was checking out different travel destinations when my brother Jim popped on via Yahoo Messenger. I told him about my "mandatory" vacation and he had to take the opportunity to "make me an offer I can't refuse".

JIM: You sorry bastard! You should take a damn vacation. Well why don't you come on out here to Delavity?

ME: Delavity? You mean Depravity? I don't know about that place. You all are fucking sick.

JIM: LOL…we're not that bad it's just fucking and I mean who doesn't like that? Besides it's finally cooled down and the fall festival is coming up. Not to mention Janet (our sister) is going to be here.

ME: Really? Well shit…is she bringing the kids too?

JIM: Yeah she is. I can't believe Dana and Amy are 11 already. I guess Katie is doing really well in school too. She may skip 3rd grade. My son is playing soccer again this year. The coach said they may move him up to varsity and my little Sandra is just as cute as a 10 year old can be.

ME: Well, I guess a little time with family wouldn't hurt so much. Especially if I get to see my little nieces and Janet. Plus I haven't seen Kelly (Jim's wife) in over a year I guess I pick up a ticket and fly down there. Do you have room at your house?

JIM: Yeah I got room…its not like the Embassy Suites but I'll make sure your comfortable, Rick.

After that we both logged off and I bought a ticket for Corpus Christi, which was only 45 minutes away from the town that's said to make Sin City look like the Vatican.

Hope you enjoyed! The next chapter coming soon.
