Enough is Enough - Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Watching Inuyasha pace back and forth, muttering darkly, made Miroku shake his head. He had been up since dawn had barely broken over the horizon waiting for Kagome. It had actually gotten worse about noon when Sesshomaru had turned up with Rin and Jaken in tow. He had announced Rin wanted to have a 'play date', as Kagome called them, with Shippo. Of course this set the hanyou off into a spewing rage, accusing the Western Lord of some elaborate conspiracy to ruin his life and happiness. The stoic Youkai looked at him like he was some disagreeable form of slime then proceeded to completely ignore him, making Inuyasha go ballistic.

About an hour later, as Inuyasha was taking one of his about 1,000th run around the village, a familiar tornado came tearing into town. Stopping several feet before Kaede's hut Kagome slid off Kouga's back. Rin saw her first and dashed over to the woman she saw as a friend and hugged her, screaming happily, "Kagome!"

Kneeling down, she hugged the little girl and smiled, "Hey Rin!"

Sesshomaru was close by the child and Miroku, Sango, Kagome and even Kouga all swore they saw the Youkai actually smile.

When Inuyasha finally tore back into town Kagome was sitting in front of Kaede's hut talking with her and the others while Kouga had gone off to say thanks to Sesshomaru.

Screaming, Inuyasha made a beeline for her, "Kagome! It's about time you got…" Then he stopped a few feet from her, eyes wide. He muttered a soft "no" and dropped to his knees.

Knowing what was coming, Miroku tried to get to Inuyasha but wasn't fast enough. Kagome had just gotten his name out of her mouth when his eyes flashed and he snarled, "You STUPID wench! What the hell did you do that for! Why couldn't you wait just a while longer? I was going to take you as a mate once Kikyo leaves!"

Before the teary-eyed miko could answer Kouga was in front of her, glaring daggers at him. "What did you just call her Inuyasha?" he snarled, eyes flashing a bit red.

Looking at the wolf demon he didn't see the being he scrapped with and tossed insults at, instead he saw a pissed-off ookami defending his mate, something he knew better than to tangle with. Looking at Kagome, he sighed and shook his head, "I won't do it again." He then turned and started to walk away, muttering something about being ready to go in a couple hours.

Kagome watched him with tears running down her face. Putting an arm around her, Kouga kissed her on top of the head. "Don't worry; I'm sure mutt-face will be back to is normal irritating self when he gets back. Give him a few days and I'm sure you can talk to him about it. It isn't like he couldn't have seen it coming Kagome."

Nodding, she rested her head on his shoulder and watched Inuyasha vanish into the trees.

As Kouga, Sango and Miroku made some preparations to go, it came as no surprise that Kouga, Ginta and Hakkaku were joining them, she sought out the Western Lord. Finding him watching Shippo and Rin play, she smiled at him. "I came to say thank you."

He nodded at her, "You're welcome miko. You made the right choice."

Looking up at the big Youkai, she asked, "Why? I didn't think you liked me much?"

Leveling his normal flat gaze with hers, his face remained passive. "I had my reasons but they don't matter. He will make you happy miko."

"Maybe someday you will tell me them." She said, leaning up and giving him a soft kiss on the cheek, to show her gratitude then walked back towards the village.

Watching her go, something close to a smile turned up the corners of his mouth, "Maybe someday, miko."
